I have a Redpaddleco 12’ 6” Race from the 2013 range, my daughter and boyfriend have glass boards and had difficulty is keeping up with me, so we embarked on some research. We spent a month researching paddle boards, we tried all the well-known inflatable brands side by side with my Red Race board, and none were as ridged as the Red boards, I am sure it is because they have staffing battens and higher pressures.

We then had to decide which Red board was best, we tiered the new 2014 smaller 12”6” Race, the 10”8” Ride and the 11’ Sport. The clear winner was the 11’ Sport the other two people are 75 and 85 Kilos, and the same height as you, I am around 110 K and also have no problem with the Sport board. We purchased two 11’ Sport boards and now we all have equal performance in all conditions.

Thanks for that AAPADDLERS. It looks great but I was concerned re the level of stiffness at my weight, given that it is less than 5 inches thick. The Red Paddle boards look extremely well constructed. I am looking to buy later on the year, early next year as my wife and I will be doing an annual trip to Koh Samui. I guess the 2016 models will be out by then too ! I think the 11' sport looks like the perfect mix of weight, stability, speed and should ride the small shore breaks over there too. The travel bag looks the best of any inflatable on the market.

You will not be able to tell the difference in stiffness between the Sport and the thicker Race, my daughter found the Sport much easier to carry, it is thinner and 3 kg lighter than the 12” 6” Race, she could not get an inflated Race on the car, but she can the Sport it is just that much easier to handle on and off the water.

Just found this on the inter web. The total weight of the board, bag and pump is 15kgs (33lbs). The board alone is 25lbs which is 11.4 kgs.

Sorry to be resurrecting this old thread, but I did a search for reviews on Red Paddle’s 11’ Sport and this came up. When I read it I was intrigued because I currently have Red Paddle’s 2014, 12’ 6’ Race. This is last years model that is 30” wide. I have been thinking about getting a second board, and was considering Red’s new 11’ Sport. My question however, is there enough difference between the 12’ 6” Race and the 11” Sport to justify getting the Sport? I had a very brief test paddle on the 11’ Sport, and it somehow felt more “nimble” if that makes any sense.

Most of my paddling is done on a lake that can get quite windy in the afternoon. On my 12’ 6” board, I get blown around quite a bit and I was wondering if the 11’ Sport might handle better in those kind of conditions?

As for me, I’m male and have only been stand up paddle boarding about a year. I am 5’ 8” tall (173 cm.) and weigh 150 pounds (68 kg.).

It looks, AAPADDLERS, like you may have the same Race I do (12’ 6” x 30”) and have also had the chance to make good use of the 11’ Sport. I was wondering how you, or anyone else for that matter, would rate the two boards? Is there much of a difference between them, or would I really be wasting my money if I was to purchase the 11” Sport when I already have the 12' 6" x 30" Race?

Thanks so much for any help any of you might be able to provide.

More nimble for sure; i.e., more fun in the surf, lighter and easier to carry around. The thinner 120mm thickness and shorter length might help with getting 'blown around', but iSUPs ride more on top of the water and getting 'blown around' is part of the fun.
