Hi I'm looking for any feed back from any one 95 kgs to 100 kgs who has either board as have a chance of getting a good deal on a 2015 model but won't be able to demo either board.
Cheers Dean
they are both really nice boards, but very different.I have a Race14x25 and i,m right now a 94kg
and I love the board on flat water.
Its very fast in that kind of conditions, imo faster as an 2015 Falcon14x24, but the big downtrade is that it seems that in side-chop the nose makes up his own mind and steers quicker away as most boards I know. Starboard marketed the Race as an allround raceboard, but imo its rather dedicated flatwater. In the beginning it feels a bit unstable and rolling when standing still or going slow, but it needs a lot to really tip over.At speed it stabilizes very quickly, the nose raises a bit and it cuts through chop. Sometimes it dives under but it doesnt slow the board down, a bit like an torpedo. :)I paddled only one Ace, that one was great in rough water, but not as fast and trully silence gliding/slicing through the water as the Race.
If you are in a downwind area the Ace is hard to beat.
Thanks for the info I have a coast runner for doing down winds.I'm looking for a board to replace my k15. it will mainly be used on rivers or estuaries where I can get wind in all directions but most of the time the chop is in front or behind me but can be affected by water skiers but they only have 400 meters of the river.I will be using it to compete in national races most of our races are river based with a few bouy turns.the only board I found to be faster than my k15 was the ace that was fine on flat water but might be a handful in any chop
K15 to a Race or Ace is a big jump in terms of stability. And the Ace in particular is quite an unusual board, and buoy turns are not a great strength. I'd hesitate to buy either without trying first, if I were you. You may love them and find you are faster on them than on your K15. But there is a chance that you won't like them and you will be slower.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Race in those sort of conditions, rock solid stability and quick for larger guys.
I use mine in flat and chop quite happily.
cheers,
Toby
I also have a coast runner found that more stable than the k15 but a lot slower.I can get 500 off a 2015 ace or 740 off the race.seems nobody of my weight seems to rate the ace.thanks for all your feedback.
One other question how fragile is the carbon construction as only had glass construction previously
You won't be wanting to take a sledgehammer to it or drop it from heights or allow it to be washed into rocks on the shoreline, but the carbon construction over the last two or three years is very much stronger and more robust than the brittle and fragile boards we were constantly patching up a few years ago.
