I just got a new SUP and don't want to use rail tape. Any recommendations on what type of tape is best for paddle blade to protect SUP?
I second DJ's "how to tape a paddle". I used to use the a rubber bead that is glue on but it left black scuff marks on the board. Did DJ's way and have never looked back. It's easy as to do and now have done all of mine as well as a few mates for them. Just make sure you buy a good quality, nice thick tape. Makes the whole job easier and a better finish.
Yes Nitto tape. I use it. Actually I use 2 layers. Take your time applying it. Mine has been on for nearly 3 years without even looking at coming off. Look at DJ's instructions. Dont stretch it! And you wont get any creases. But a small crease I have got on one of my paddles but it doesnt present a problem.
Good quality tape can be bought from an electrical shop or just buy a well known quality brand from a Hardware shop.
Nitto electrical tape (same colour as your rails if you're worried about marks that rub off easily) ![]()

White Nitto electrical tape looks good and will not leave a mark.. I've been using it for years..
btw.. The new Rail Saver Pro paddle guard now comes in colours..
I've just ordered some orange to use on my surf paddle.. ![]()
DJ, Thanks for the electrical tape tutorial. Used to use door edge guards until I saw your tape install. Better in every way!
Not a fan of the new RSP product. It's too short! Had to put electrical on the bottom in order to protect the whole edge..![]()
Electrical tape? To think I've been wasting it on cabling all these years!![]()
At least part of my SUP ing will be tax deductable from now on ![]()
