was looking at fanatic 8,8x29 111 litres
starboard pro 9x29 128 litres I think
was on 2016 jp surf 8,10 x29 or might of been 30 can't remember at 128 litres in all conditions be it some frustrating
now I'm normally 85 to 88 kg , I think this weight may struggle on the fanatic but would be spot on with the starboard , pretty much the same as my jp surf but with a 2 litre advantage
with fanatic recomending up to 85kg assume it's clean conditions only at those litres
could chuck in the Jackson close 8,8x30 nice and stable but small litres like the fanatic
for my weight in most conditions I just can't seem to get out of boards in the 126 , 128 litres
You should not focus too much on the volume, especially on small differences like 2 liters:
- The stated volume on production boards is not really exact. It is the one printed by the shaping software, but then it can vary during the actual building of the board, and may be rounded off anyways. BTW the volume of custom boards can be also way off, as well as the dimensions. I just measured last month a width of 29.5" on a reputed local shaper SUP board that was given for ... 28".
- The shape, especially main, nose and tail widths are much more important (as long as you have enough volume to float). If you want to reduce volume, try to do it with boards with wider nose and tail.
This said, there is no shame in staying in a "comfort range" with volume. It is not worth going down too much if you cannot have more than one session per week for instance, or if you get out often in chop, or for a board dedicated to slow/weak waves.

yes very true, yes I was comfortable on my 8,10x30 at 128 litres
from paper anyway the starboard pro 9,0 x29 at 128 would almost be just the same board float wise anyway
I think fanatic are dreaming stating 90ks for there 8,8 I seen a guy 76kg and water was lapping
Just no chance to demo these so I'm going off how I felt on my jp surf as above

At 100kg and 57 years old, my board for choppy conditions is a 7'11" x 29.5" x 115l
My board for cleaner conditons with not too much paddling is a 7'3"x 29.75" x 105l
But I average now 3 sessions per week. With less than 2 sessions per week 2 years ago, I was not going lower than 125 liters... except a "Tomo" shape where I could manage 105 liters.
The manufacturer recommendations are averages. We are all different.
That leaves me with three options , I get out at any opportunity so 3 surfs a weeks is obtainable
leaves me with
fanatic 8,8 at 111 litres
deep 8,8 at just above that somewhere
starboard 9,0 at 128 litres
now, I was comfortable on my jp surf 8,10 x30 at 128 so more or less a easy safe choice with the starboard
so its the other two which I can't demo and a good drop in litres , but in saying that I think I can get a demo on a Naish mad dog 8,6 at 121 litres so that may be my limit , I surf in all conditions
For what it is worth Foam, I have always found the Fanatic prowaves to be feel tippier than the JP's of similar literage.

yes i I was told this a couple of years ago, hence I purchased the jp but now like the look of starboard
