This arvo I heard that RPS here in Melbourne just recieved a new Starboard flat water race board and it's very different to what we've seen from Starboard before..
I tryed to make it down there today to take some pics but ran out of time before work.. I'll get some pics tomorrow and maybe even paddle it.. I hear that there's no sunken deck.

Hey DJ, I'm in a god forsaken place called Chengdu. Most polluted city I've ever been although the locals insist it's just "fog".
I assume this new mystery 12'6 is the "Race" which replaces the Surf Race. Did RPS get a carbon or glass version?
Here's my pics of the new Starboard 12'6" race board.. and it does actually have a sunken deck but it's only slight compared to the older 'New' with its deep sunken foot wells.

Yeah so definitely the updated Surf Race rather than the updated New, which is now called the Ace.
Did you get a chance to paddle it DJ?
After officiating all day today
, amidst perfect conditions, often cringing because I couldn't be out there, I plan to take the latest S/B 12'6" through it's paces first thing tomorrow morning.![]()
Just a thought here, do these boards need a fin at all. they all seem to have pretty hard rails that would keep them going in a straight line. Would losing the fin provide any speed increase?
Its definatly a surf race board the volume in the nose will allow it to pop over waves I think in the flat water you should try the ace 25 wide
by the way do you guys do races races in the surf or just flat water bay beaches I was in Wye River surf club for a few years and think it would a good venue for a bop race with Apolla Bay being your 2nd spot if the surf was to big at Wye River]DavidJohn said...

Yes.. It was nice.. and very stable compared to my Javalin
It felt fast but tends to push a bit of water when you paddle hard rather than part it like the Jav and the K15 does.

I know its a long way to travel from vico but we wil be holding a bop style race and down winder in Scotts Head Nsw held by the the surf club end of May or mid June
just finilizing date so keep an eye out
whats your veiw on the new starboard 12.6 29 wide surf
I was speaking to Ian at Noosa and its totally different from the old surf?![]()
I didn't get to see it in the flesh as I'm in China at the moment but I must admit to being slightly disappointed that the narrow version has gained an inch from 26" to 27". At my weight, I was kind of hoping they'd go the other way and give us a 25" Surf Race. I have no problems balancing on the 25" New. In fact, I wish I'd bought a 23" before they took that one off the market.
PTWoody,
Out of interest, how much do you weigh?
I'm 70kg and thinking about what would be the right width for a 12'6 I plan on buying by this spring.
The new 12'6 and 14' Starboards were in Robe for the Easter Classic and got
1st 14'' and 2nd 12'6 in the Ladies race and 2nd 14' in the mens race (14' Fanatic got 1st)
Yeh, a BOP style board, as I will want to buy something that is is nice to paddle in ocean conditions, as well as flat water, as at this stage, I won't be having enough boards to specialise down to that level. Maybe one day if I have a lot more storage (and cash!) ![]()
