hi all
hey just wondering if anyone has feedback on the Naish surf Quest 9.6 at 32 wide 170lt might be a great option
I'm currently riding a 10.2 JP Fusion looking for something bit smaller been edging towards the 9.5 Mana just want to check if anyone has feedback on the quest I'll try to demo both this weekend but thought it would be good to ask
cheers
This should say it all .
its a cross between the mana 9.5 and 9.6 x32 Hokua .
if you've been catching waves ...and getting better ...and only weight 85 kgs .
have you considered the 9.1 x32 ....I didn't find very much to adapt to the 9.1 @150 @litre .so has heaps of float for you and has the width ...I'm 98 kgs .you can also change it to a quad and rip even harder ,once you get better ..
what size and type of wave do you ride ..?
Tardy
thanks legend,
Yeh I'm catching waves pretty easy now balance is improving the JP Fusion at 10.2 is a big board though only just starting to learn turns on it.
also have a 10.6 Nalu for glassy days & flat water paddle great board use it I head up to Noosa for the weekend.
What's the 9.1 board you mentioned ?
Generally the waves I'm catching are beach breaks only small shoulder to ankle bitters, no swell around lately
Noosa has both beach break and point break buts a long drive from brissy!
any suggestions would be great mate just trying to add to the collection before the wife realizes hahaha
Oh yes the 10.6 Nalu ...it would be a great noosa board ..and catch them from way back in the line up ,sorry for the crowds up there ....
if you are planning on keeping those two boards ,I would get something a bit more radical for surfing ...
I have a mate would has a 10.6 ,he jumped on my 9.1 x32 and straight away was catching waves ,but didnt know what to do with the looseness ....he soon hooked on to what to do ...as was use to going straight .
i think I told you I have gone through all the naish range and have been lucky to sell most of them as I have progressed .
the 9.1 x32 I thought was the one that ,had good volume and a real nice loose board and really good for beach breaks ,because as you know they can really jack up fast and the one thing that we all seem to do is nose dive ...gggrrrr.
the mana nose dives easier than the x32 ,where the 9.1 x32 has good rocker ..and still is flat enough to have a bit of speed ..it's 32 wide so a good stable board ,but some of the turns I use to do where great ...very snappy ..its got 150 litre of foam ,so still in the biggish range ...so only 10 less than your Nalu ...where the quest would be 10 more than the Nalu .but the Nalu is 30 wide so will feel a lot tippier than the 9.1 .i just think it would be a great stepping stone for you and will give you the excitement you are looking for ...as naish says the x32 is great in small sloppy waves and beach breaks ,he was spot on .I still have the 8'8 x32 Hokua .but wish I'd kept the 9.1 .the 8' 8 has a huge rocker ,it never nose dives ,but you have to paddle hard to catch waves with my weight .
is there anyway you can demo ....I couldn't so I brought and sold ...
you could ride the 9.1 .no problem ...or even look at a 9.1 JP . It's a great size to have in the quiver ...
If you are anywhere near Sydney I have just listed a 2017 9'6 quest for $850. Basically a new board.
i really liked the quest. I started with the 10'6 Nalu but found I preferred a more surf shape rather than a longboard shape. So I went to the quest. It rockets along the wave and turns well for its size. It has the same volume as the Nalu but turns better.
i am only selling because I have now gone to an 8'6 jimmy Lewis super frank. This is the next logical step.

Here a couple of photos
left 9.6 x32 170 litres ,right 9,5 mana 163 litres ..I preferred the 9.6 at the time ,but loved the 9.1 better ...

is the 9.1 your talking about the hokua ?
the reason i hadnt considered this range i thought they might have to much rocker for the smaller waves and more suited for bigger waves
great info for me though mate thanks again i'll have to try find somewhere to demo a few boards

yes the HOKUA ..x32 not the standard hokua ,they are narrower ...and lower volume .
that 9,6 is a great price ....seems to surf ok on the vid .
