Just got my 2014 9'5" WP brush carbon. First day had strong onshore winds so took it out on a sheltered sound and paddled it around for awhile. I was wearing a 3/2 wetsuit w/boots, weigh 103 k, 6'3". No problems and was ready for the next days forecast of offshore winds and head high waves! Next morning hit the surf. The ocean was still a little bumpy and lots of current and I struggled to stay on the board. Rode a handful of waves and liked the prospect that this board offers in that respect but after falling into the cold water a lot had to hang it up after an hour and go get my 11'x31 1/4"x5" custom epoxy model that I've ridden for 7 mos. I was bummed to say the least. I know that I need to put time in on the board and feel that if I dropped 5-10 k and was in trunks only I could make it work eventually. For now I'm thinking I need to get another board that is smaller than my custom but has more flotation than the new WP. Here's the list, 10'5" Wide Point (178 liter, max rider wt. 95 kg), 10' Whopper (171 l, 105 kg), 9' Hero(149 l, 95 kg) the 9'5" WP I have is (153 l, 90 kg). I want to get another brushed carbon that will have a little more stability for the winter months. I will have to use a 4/3 soon. The "max rider wt." is confusing as it doesn't exactly relate to the volume? Just looking for something that will surf and carry me and this dang wetsuit through the winter. Any opinions?
Man, just keep surfing it... and do yourself a favor and save some money!Pretty soon, you'll be able to paddle a board like the 9'5 WP on one foot!!!
Just don't keep going back to your old safe board. Challenge yourself, otherwise you won't progress.
I'm 100Kg and i'm waiting for a 8'5 @106l and an 8'0 @96l. Just go and paddle a bit in flat water to get used to a smaller board and you'll see that 150l it's a pretty easy thing at our weight!
In the past year I have had so many great days on my 9'5" WP and loved it , it was a great transition board for me.
I have had a good few crap days when I surfed like a ****head and hated it, it was not the board it was usually the conditions and the rider !!!!!
Keep on it the 9'5" is a great board

Yeah, I know I need to put in the time on it, just wish it was summer time. I'll have to wait for a glassy day and take it out and it will probably go better. Phil, what do you weigh? I just did a whole day eating like a granola head. Figure if I can get down to 210 lbs from my current 228 lbs it can only help. All the fruits & veggies aren't as much fun as salt, sugar and fat!
