Hi,
I am looking for a good entry level surf shape. I weigh 90kgs. I am looking for:
1. A strong board that can take the usual treatment that you get with beach breaks but has reasonable weight
2. A shape that can handle on shore slush and often dumpy closeouts (Manly Beach in Sydney)
3. A shape that has reasonable glide and tracking making waves easy to catch
4. A board that is very stable but still can turn ok
I have a Nalu 10'6 but it is way to fragile, particularly with the thin nose. I have hit the sand a couple of times and both times the nose literally exploded about a half a meter along the rail. I have tried the Naish quest 9'6 in our typical 3ft close outs. It was very stable and felt very balanced. It also felt very strong, but was very heavy. I think it was over 12kg. The quest seemed to tick all the boxes other than weight.
The fanatic allwave 9'4 looks similar, but is also a bit lighter and more stable again. I have not been able to demo one. Does anyone have a view on how it might compare, particularly for strength.
I also tried a hypernut 9'. Totally different board with much lower volume. I felt I was pushing the board through the water rather than gliding over it, so I think I might be a bit heavy for that one.

Dont ride your boards up on the sand .no board likes it.heavy usually mean tuff.the quest is as tuff as it gets.but will scatch.if ridden up on the sand...use rail tape right around it .if your rough?but the shape is good .easy to surf and tuff.
I ended up getting the naish quest 9'6 rather than the allwave. The naish has a far better deck pad, and the new construction seems as hard as nails.
I managed to get a surf surf in one foot beachies. Very stable board, but surprisingly easy to throw around on a wave.
