Hi all,

I'm looking for some advise on board choice.

I currently paddle a Naish ONE inflatable SUP (previous car didn't have roof racks) but I'm now looking to move to a hard board. I've narrowed the choice down to two and would like to "keep it in the family"

I'm deciding between the 2015 Naish Glide GS 12'6" x 30 or the Javelin 12'6" x 28 GX

The vast majority of my paddling is spent flat water touring but I'd like to get into the waves a little more and maybe try my hand at some downwinding. I'm looking for a good stable board with a great glide. I'm 78kg.

Really keen to hear people's views on both.

Javelin 12'6 x 28"
Far superior board, super stable - makes a great tourer too.
I have one in my garage!
Cheers
Michael

Thanks !!

That's the way I've bean leaning, just not sure how much the design and a difference 2" would make to stability.

The 12'6 x30 (assuming you mean the latest one) is a LOT of board, at 78kg way more board than you need. It's also fairly heavy for getting it on and off the car. It's really better suited to the 100kg+++ units.

You mentioned you want to do some downwinding as well. Go the Jav as it will do this better than the Glide

Thanks all for the great feedback.

How much difference does the 2" make to the stability of the board ?

It's noticable but it's not much in these boards because the Jav is very stable for a 28" wide board.. I found the old shape 28" wide Jav more tippy.. I would say the 30" wide Glide is an easier board on a downwinder but the Jav is faster on flat water and noticeably lighter.. You should try and demo them both if you can..

That's the plan. Hoping to try them both at a demo day this Sunday up at Terrigal.

Hi Caveman,

I went to a demo day on Sunday and took a number of boards out for a spin

- Glide 14' x 30
- Jav 12'6" x 26 LE
- Jav 14' x 28 LE
- Jav 14' x 28 GX

Everybody's feedback was spot on !!!

Took the Jav 12'6' x 26 out first, couldn't believe how light it was !! It absolutely flies but it was a little tippy for me. It was fantastic on the lake but I'd be doing it tough in a bit of chop. Then took out the Jav 14' x 28 LE - Absolutely fantastic ride. Stable and super quick !! followed by the Jav 14' x 28 GX. Another fantastic ride but the weigh difference was noticeable (probably wouldn't be anywhere near as noticeable if I hadn't just stepped off the LE).

Finally took out the Glide 14' x 30. Great board, super stable and glides like a dream, but after paddling the Jav's, there was no comparison !!!

My only decision now is can I justify the LE over the GX ? Thoughts ? Pro's / Con's. Would love to hear peoples views.

Duffy it's really just an issue of super light weight vs value and durability.
Choose which you value most and jump in

How much more durable would the GX be over the LE ?

Are the full carbon boards considered "fragile" ?
