Anyone ever ridden one of these? I know Naish have discontinued this board and only offer a 9'10 gun for 2015, which probably means there wasn't much demand for the 10'8". I always looked at the pic on the old 2014 website and thought the shape looked beautiful and wondered what it would be like?

It's a great board if you are light and know what you are doing...it's quite unstable for me at 85kg but I believe Chuck paddles it no problem.....it's narrow at 27" with super pulled in nose and tail so despite the length it's a not the most stable. Chris Bertish caught some bombs on it here in SA - here is a vid of him on the 9'8:

and here is one where he uses the old 11'6 - mullet:

I am about 75 kg and owned both the 9'8" Gun and 10'8" Gun. I made the mistake of selling the 9'8" to get the 10'8". The 10''8" was slightly more stable out the back, but was much less lively on the wave and didn't get me into a wave any earlier. The 9'8" was a magic carpet ride in clean big surf. With really pulled in noses and tails, both boards are a handful in sloppy conditions. I use the Hokua 9 in all conditions now and am happy.

Thanx for those vids Peter. They were sick!
I'm 100kg so the stability may be an issue I guess.

Zeus, I have a 10'8 GT (basically same dims as the LE) - I'm 95 kg - it has heaps of float - heaps of glide and catches fast swells very well. I normally surf either an 8'5 GT or 8'10 LE (which is my favourite - but the construction isn't as robust as the GT - I have snapped one) - I'd suggest you consider the GT especially if you want to chase rhinos

Thanx for that stitches. How do you find the stability? I've tried paddling the 8'10" in flat water and I have to admit, it was mostly under water and I struggled to stay upright.

The 10'8 can be a bit tippy but overall easier than the 8'10 - a bit like a bike - once it's moving forward the stability increases - but this also means that manoeuvring (at stand still or low speed) can be a challenge - and of course compared to a shorter board it's harder to bring around with the paddle - at my weight though, on the wave it's fast and fun - and the length is welcome if the wave fattens - it gets most use when a good southerly driven swell arrives - which is unfortunately infrequent!

Touché Mr Hitman! However I did try the 11'0" a couple of weeks ago and honestly, I still prefer the 11'4". If you're free at all next week Wednesday-Friday we should go for a wave together?
