Hi everyone,

I am thinking of buy a Naish board and am interested in everyone's thoughts.

I am 105kg, seems to be a popular weight, I should be 85-90 as I am. Just under 6' tall.
fitness is average

95% will be surfing but if the wind is up I enjoy the paddle between flinders and shoreham.

i have a couple of boards which let's my wife and kids get out for the flinders / shoreham paddle. I need to be fitter to enjoy my 10' Stuart Anderson board which is great for surfing but not good for standing around waiting for waves or onshore wind conditions.

i have a 11'6 trigger bros board which I generally grab as I am lazy and it is super stable.

All thoughts are much appreciated and helpful.

which has the best rocker etc, 6' waves are at the upper size rang for me, 2-4' waves are perfect.

thx

andrew

Can't go past a naish ..yellow is so attractive ..
11'nalu .for sure has a big rocker .next one with the best rocker in your selection is the 11.4
slightly narrower at 30 instead of the 11'at 31 ..if its stability your after .
11' will handle bigger drops ,with the extra rocker . Go the GT they polish up nice with meguiars.yellow wax .
with the Polynesian designs on the bottom .

I found the new 11 board to be a bit of a boat & too wide for surfing at 31 inches.

In my opinion - the old 11'4" feels much more like a classic Mal and was the better surfing board.

+1. My 'old' 11'4" is my go-to board for fun small beachies.

I know many disagree with me, but I think the 11'4" is the best of the Nalu boards. I've had 3 of them and would gladly have another. I just think they surf better

love my 11, find the sweet spot for the rear fin. Once you do that you will love it.
Such a fun board

thanks very much for the comments they are exactly what I was interested in - re rocker and stablity.

The rocker and width both appeal so it sounds like the 11' will be the go.

where is the best place to buy the Naish boards.

many thanks

Andrew

One final question is the value difference of $300 worth it when comparing the GT/GS construction?

Gidday caltrano,I know ....$300 ...I have had 2 GS model now ....sold one ..have two GT's now ,.but the GT is 1 kg lighter ..has a three fin option ,beautiful gloss finish ,it washes up nice ,looks great .if your going to keep it for a long time ..I would ,and do pay the extra,I have a 4WD so the 1 kg makes the difference when throwing it on the roof, and carrying it for long distances . Light boards float better.construction ..GT doesn't chip like the GS ..but the GS is still very strong .
Enjoy . Your buying a great board .
if I was going on a road trip and could only take one board ...Nalu .

If you can afford it I recommend getting the GT construction.. The extra quality and finish is very noticeable and it's nice to have the three fin option.. Where to buy in Melbourne? .. I recommend seeing Paul at the Zu or Warwick at KiteRepublic.. Tell them DJ sent you and he said you'd give them a discount..

hey Andrew great looking wheels - I went the 11 ft nalu and after a couple of small strong offshore conditions am loving it, catches anything, surprisingly responsive for an 11 footer. DJs vids just got to me after going down, down down in size to a 7 8 simsup ST (great board in good conditions), I'm just loving having a board that is nothing but FUN... won't replace smaller boards but great addition to the quiver... you can't go wrong with it. will hopefully fit in the kombi (mine fits inside my Vito van). good luck, cheers, dools

Hey dools...do you like your 11 Nalu as a three fin or a single ,?
only had mine for 8 days ,tried both I think I like it as a single .
but yeah it's defiantly put the fun back into wave riding ,and you get out the back real quick .
Its great getting over the white wash.
its alot different to the 11.4 ,I like the extra width ,makes it alot easier to use .

but yeah your right it won't replace the small boards ,but when it's small surf and you just want a cruisey day in the surf.
Its gonna be cool.

only tried it stock with three fins but looking forward to paying around with single and also trying a smaller rear fin... will let you know once I play around a bit.

agree on the bit of extra width - I was given a loaner starboard pro 10 3 when in bali recently, which was only 29 wide, went great on waves but much harder to maneuver around, even turning it around to catch waves was a challenge, while the nalu is easy and feels shorter than 11 ft - feels much shorter than the 10 3 starby did. longboard stylemasters may disagree but I'm loving the 31 width - and makes it a great allrounder and family/friends board.

I actually tried mine with a 6.5 fin today out of my Hokua ,had it right to the back...the big 9" plus sides equals alot of area .tried the 11.4 with all three standard fins .too much .for me on small waves,
might push the rear 6.5 fin right up the front ,see if I can loosen it up .without loosing the drive ,the single was a little slidey on a steep face .
but might be just me .early days.
once ,I find the right combo ,I'll glue them in place .thanks .let me know what you find .
interest .info .with the other board you mentioned.i would of thought different ,just looking at the 10.3
yeah the 11' is more of a throw around compare to the 11'4 but the 11.4 is faster .but hairier on the steep drops
had the 11' in 2-3 reef break ,10-12 knot wind ,so it was late take offs ..it went well only nose dived once ..
i hate getting catapulted .
tardy .

Thanks Dools - the 11'sounds perfect - I am very keen on FUN, I am not keen to go any shorter than the 10' Stuart Anderson board I have which in good conditions is great but hard work if there is any wind to speak off.

Work has been crazy but I will find time to get on to it. This forum is fantastic - its a great help to hear from people who are using the boards and the feedback makes it much easier to get the right board. it will be touch and go getting it inside the car - I have roof racks to install so all will be ok.

Thanks

Andrew

Same here.. I've had 2 or 3 11'4s over the years and I much prefer the new 11' board.. Chalk and cheese difference..

I've never demo'd the 11, but if it's better than the 11'4" then I'm keen to give it a try. My big banana has converted many non-suppers to the sport.

Thanks, that's a big difference in rockers. The 11'4" would have to be quicker, but hard to believe that some find the 11'4" a better surfer with so little tail rocker.

Yep big difference .the 11.4 surfs like a classic long board ..and you can ride on the nose ..
Some people love that feature ,rightfully so it's still a pretty cool board .if your a little lighter ,unlike me .
The 30' width is more of a bonus .i find the 31' heaps easier to surf on and the rocker just skips over broken waves ,it freaked me out the first
Time I took it out .usually I would of been grovelling in the white wash but I was still standing .
I'm loving the all new 2015 11' Nalu ,it s user friendly . .

Not surfed the 11 but IMHO the 11 4 has plenty rocker....I have surfed it in loads of diff waves and never come close to pearling it. It does feel like a longboard which I really like and it is very stable. Picks up waves very early too. You need to demo.....see which you prefer....both will be good.

Personally if if the new 11 had been kept at 30 wide it would have been a great board but 31 too much IMHO. I am sure with a rocker like that it surfs great but could have been a wee bit better still. Just my take of course??

Yeah your right slab the 11.4 ,it has heaps of rocker compared to most board s .but the thing that the picture doesn't show and is hard to notice without having the two boards side by side ,is the huge V in the hull ,that the 11.4 has .
the 11 ' has more of a flat bottom .the 11.4 because of this holds its line and has a very direct line of feel .So you have to walk down the tail to swing it around in turns ,which it does with ease ,and can possibly turn harder ,where the 11' can be turned without having to walk down the tail as much .because of this I think the 11' is easier to surf .the 11.4 has the edge on speed , i have the 11' as a 3 fin with a 6.5 rear and pushed forward on the track ..it's fun .

Think it is actually a double concave in the mid section but get what you are saying.....it is a step back kind of board. I like the pin tail too.....not surfed it for a while.....been surfing shorter.....but fancy getting it out again.

I bought an 11' board from Kite Republic and looks fantastic, rocker is significantly better in real life. I picked it up Saturday and cant wait to get it in the water.

Once I have I will let everyone know it feels but I am very stoked so I will be heading to Shoreham and paddle out to grab some waves

thanks again for your advice - perfect!
