Hey guys – I’m thinking of designing a SUP and getting it cut on a machine, does anyone know of such a service around Melbourne, or elsewhere in Aus? I’m new to this but seems AKU is the software to design with, but welcome suggestions on alternatives. I’ve shaped surfboards the old way in the old family back shed in the past but sadly no shed now in tiny inner city backyard!
Thanks, I might have to look further afield. Outside Aus probably not worth it though, might need a couple of hundred bucks of bubble wrap to get here...
The Goldy has a couple, but it'd be cheaper going locally with Jacks Id say. Good luck and do post pics
Legend, thanks Jack. I'll get in touch once design is further along, need to learn software first :)
Hi DJ
Up to about 10' 6 only at present. Will look at maximum length tomorrow for you, the depth of the current shed will definitely not accomodate downwinders.
Would be stoked to help
with the manufacture of a custom DJ board of your own or another's design.
Get on www.shape3d.com/
Regards
Jack
I'm pretty sure Zak has one in his new shaping premises in Preston. Ring Zak Surfboards Thornbury.
Yeah Zak installed a CNC machine about 6 weeks ago. I'm not sure if the machine itself has limitations for size of the blank, but Zak's warehouse studio would be just about wide enough to take a 14'. Not so sure he wants to be messing with SUP race board shaping though.
There are enough great shapers and machines in Aus, so no need to buy from OS. Deep on the Goldy can do it for you, or locally in Vic I would only use well know shapers that have been using these machines for years.
Simon Forward from 4D Surfboards in Ocean Grove is a great one, as is Kane Tankard from Ocean Foam on the Peninsula. Go straight to the shaper, and they can do a pre shape for you.
