Hello everyone!

I love my 7'7" pro shape but looking for something new for smaller and sh***y days... It's been 6 months without paddle surfing; I'm still recovering from bad knee injury so I will have to return back to surfing step by step... my 7'7" won't be the best option untill I get back "in shape". So... injury and small days are my excuse to "upgrade my quiver"
I will keep my new board after I recover for thoose small or windy mushy days when I wouldn't enter in the wather with my 7'7" pro. And days like this are really common here on my local spot.

What would be the best option for my no. 2 board?
1. Longboard shape (9'x28x3 110 liters)

2. Short but wide 8'x32 like Naish hokuax32, allwave or other similar shapes
3. New parralel rails 7'2" -8' like Naish raptor, JP Slate, Starboard Hyper nut...

I would love to hear your opinion. Thank you!
Cheers

IMO Glide is needed on small days so longboard shape is better for this...

Boards i'd look at are:
JL Striker
Sunova Style / Surf
Infinity New Deal
Custom Smik/Sunova/Deep etc

Volume isn't so important for boards like this, if anything, increase your volume so your wave count goes up.

Vanguard style boards require you to be really close to where the wave breaks to catch them so not the best for weak mushy waves IMO, they are better when the waves have a bit of steepness to them...and you'll be right where the other surfers are waiting for waves.

If you don't like Longboard style surfing, a fish style board would be the next choice...but these don't have the glide of a longboard.

Some good options are:
Sunova Skate
JL Worldwide
JP Surf Wide

Good luck!

Since I am always wearing a knee brace, I am sensitive to things that stress it.

Longboards requirer more of a pivot turn with most pressure on the rear knee.
My weak knee is my back one... some days are hard on it.

IMO... consider a square board, which is ridden with more equal stress on both knees, may be a better fit for recovery.... and will be a great addition to your quiver for the wonky days.

I love riding low volume (for me) performance shapes (e.g 8' x 90l) but as you say, they're not for all conditions. One of my favourite longboard inspired boards is 9'1 x 26 3/4" x 3 3/4" x 96l which floats my 80kgs perfectly (it's not the worlds most stable board but it's by no means unstable) / it paddles onto anything & seems to do everything well...my #1 contender if I could only own 1 board...hell no

It's probably prudent to stick to the dims you mentioned however if you want the volume to be closer to 110l, I'm guessing you would have to add a touch more thickness to the rails e.g. make them approx. 4". Feel free to PM me if you want more feedback - cheers

I'm with Hoppo, I recently rode a 10'x28 120ltr deep and it was great.

Thank you all, so longboard should be my next choice. @supthecreek thank you, I didn't think about that! I've decided to demo long and narrow shape just to see how my knee works on that. If it's going to be too stressful I will switch to fish or square.

So, I'm 120 lbs, I was thinking about 9' x 28" or 27" and around 110, 115L. Am I choosing right dimensions?

Imo 27", 90 lts is more than enough for your weight.
