Looking to go a little smaller
92kg currently on jp 8,10 surf in all conditions and board starting to feel a little big
Hi Foam
i am 88kg 5'7'' (172cm) and went from fanatic allwave 8'11'' to fanatic prowave 8'9'' over Christmas...totally lovin it! Haven't been on jp to compare though. compared to the allwave, the 8'9'' is so much faster and looser on the wave, easy to surf backhand (struggled to get back down off lip due to volume/wide rails?), great to slot in the pocket and break fins free too. the original fins (thruster setup) is actually really good on the 2015 model at least. I have just ordered some FireWire quads, as suggested by zeusman in a previous post, and will write some feedback when I try them.
I am a slow learner, so it has taken me a couple of months to really get comfy on the prowave. I could surf the allwave in ANY condition, but had to hold back on those sloppy, cross-shore and gnarly backwash on the points until I got use to board. Now charging it like a semi-madman...or so I feel:) I have shortened my paddle a fair bit to accomodate the lower centre of gravity (less volume), which also helped with the frozen shoulder I have developed. Could be from bad technique but I have felt a huge improvement since shortening my paddle.
All in all, getting my prowave was....awesome! Where do you surf? I am from ham (near raglan) now over in central coast nsw. Time for a trip home with all the vids from supmaori.

HI mate
Nice reply cheers, yes I got a new paddle and it's slightly longer than my old one just plain wrong keep them short eh
Yea supmaori is a fish
I think even though both board are the same volume the prowave maybe the more stable it's wider for a start and I think a slightly fuller nose
Yeah, pro wave is wider in front half than previous models. good for stability. Had a surf on my mates board, Naish 103l (?) and when I got mine back it felt so much more stable. That's why I am keen to try diff fins??
Welcome to take my board for a spin if you are on the central coast, nsw
Hey Foam, I think not many punters have ridden both so unable to compare.
I (73kg) have the 2015 8’6” JP Surf Pro, same shape as the 2016 which has the pulled in nose and tail so a bit less stable than the 2013/14 models and guessing a lot less stable than your 2015 8’10” which has the fuller nose/tail shape. It is easily the best board I have owned but then Sups are pretty personal and all depends on your environment and height/weight/skill level. At your weight I would think the 2016 8'10" Pro would be perfect for you as way lighter and has the refined shape so will be a bit more challenging but more nimble and responsive, I recall that you thought you had bought the 2016 model. If the Pro didn't cost $3k I'd get one as my lumpy day board.
Cheers Slack
Thanks and yes you could be correct , the 8,6 jp would be mean but I think the surf you guys get over there is mostly glassy clean and understand why you like the smaller board
I was comparing myself in size 90kg to Piros regarding the 8,6 jp
But again I think your clean conditions are different to ours possibly.
Piros uses his in all conditions so I got the idea from that
I can get another 8,8 or 8,10 board but as it will be bugger all different to my current board it almost seems a waste of money
Was looking at the deep jc 8,8 122 litres and asked Simon if 90kg or 95 kg was the peak end for the size
Which would be fine but was told no a experience rider 115 kg could ride it
This just plain put me off even considering it as this would seem it's to big for 90kg
So I'm looking at sticking with jp and my 8,10 with the consideration of steeping upto the 8,6 jp
I think if you're keeping your 2015 8'10 then getting the 2015 or 2016 8'6" Pro is a viable plan as they aren't that close to each other with your 8"10 being the older shape.
For me having the 8'6" x29 and 8'10" x30 both in the new shape makes them fairly close but I so loves the boards I'm keen to do it. Hoping that when the 2017 boards come out there might be some deals on the superseded 2016 8'10".
There are a couple of 2015 8'6" Pros for sale on SB which I think are good value.
If you buy a new 8'10" Pro and you don't like it I'll give you $2k for it
