Anyone surfing one of these? I have a 11 4 Nalu which is a superb board....I like the way it surfs but no getting away from it being a big beast.
I like longboard SUPs and like JL shapes. The 10 8 looks about my size and the nose and tail looks good....thinned out tail etc and I like the fact that it is 29 wide.....just a bit more performance I guess.
Any feedback?
Great boards ,surf very well !!!! When I first started out , I had the option between the Mano and the hanalei I always regretted not getting it , don't get me wrong the Mano was a great board , but the hanalei would of offered stacks more fun at that stage of my supping . ![]()

Ta for the reply.....I'm not beginning in SUP but like longboard SUPs and they are pretty good option for where I am. The design is untouched from when it was first made years back but that doesn't mean it isn't as good or better than what is on offer just now.
Would be be good to hear from surfers who have tried a few similar boards.
Thanks all...
It's a little bit tippy compared with some similar-length boards these days, but if you aren't too heavy and are intermediate or above then it shouldn't be an issue.

Have you spent a wee while surfing one Area 10? Go in most conditions? It is only an inch less in width to my Nalu but I suppose a lot depends what the hull is like. Th big question is whether it's template and slightly thinner outline makes it a better surfer than the equivalent Nalu...or too close to call.
Hilly....thanks for the pics. Have you surfed other similar type boards to give me a comparison? Similar to a Nalu? Just wondering how thinned out that tail is and whether it is a bit more manoeuvrable.
A long time ago. You would need to go back to back to really compare. I like the 29 width and rails on the Jimmy.
This site is good nice pics http://www.jimmylewis.ca/?page_id=301

You could order a carbon version if you wanted. Might be a wait though. My carbon WW is insanely light.
I've got a 10'6 Surftech Laird and although I haven't surfed many different types of boards I've ridden longboards for years and riding this is like riding a good longboard.

hmm another Laird pimp in a thread about other boards. Thanks we get the picture in all the other threads but we don't like the decks caving in that's why we buy Jimmys.
Mines a surftech model. Don't have deck issues so what's the big deal ? Geez this is pretty serious isn't it ?
I've had a 10'8 Hanalei for yonks - so long it doesn't have a handle...so since 2007-8 maybe? It was my 2nd board after the absolute dog of a thing he first released - 11'0 squash single ironing board back around 05-06??? I had a 10'2 Mano for a while as well but whilst it was definitely snappier, I found the extra effort to balance wasn't worth it and I often missed other aspects of the Hanalei anyway (smoothness and drive). I really wanted to just have a one-board SUP quiver as well as I still typically take a mal on (road) surftrips, plus 3 surfboards and often a sailboard and all the crap that goes with that. 6 months ago I gave in and got a Starboard Widepoint 9'5 which now get used more, but I haven't even contemplated selling the JL yet.
I'm a top-heavy 6'4, ~108kg, with a couple of dodgy discs so my stability is pretty poor. Riding the 10'8 I do find it a bit tippy and I 'plop off' when waiting around for waves more than anyone I know of a similar surfing standard. If you weigh less than me and don't have any other lame excuses, it should be plenty stable.
As for surfing - it rocks. It has such a sweet rocker for such a large tanker and the volume distribution/rails are balanced just right. The main thing it has is loads of drive off the rail. When on the more fin/tail centric Mano or the Widepoint I find myself doing lots of small jim-jam turns to race fast sections, on the Hanalei it's one deep-rail bottom turn to sling through it - so much fun. On a slightly overhead wave on my forehand it can feel like I'm Terry Fitz blasting a single at J-Bay. Cutbacks are a blast as well as it flows from rail to rail sweetly and carves a real cutback (with momentum at the end) rather than a snap/stallback that a lot of boards do. Doing this on a 10'8 with your back foot right on the kick-pad. Swing weight isn't excessive - the standard construction is pretty light for the size and almost bulletproof. If I had to replace it, I doubt I'd pay more for carbon now the option is there - lightness might just ruin the drivey feel.
Like any large board it can get a bit bouncy and hard to handle once it starts to go super-fast ie when the waves are solid - say 10' faces, but up to that behaves better than anyone would imagine by looking at the thing on land.
In baby waves it has plenty of glide and is good for walking and trimming but it DOES NOT NOSERIDE well - it just has too much rocker and pushes water if you try to hang 10... a slightly stretched 5 is about it for me anyway.
Summary: great allrounder.

very useful - thanks. I'm a stretched out 5 too.
I am lighter than you 95 kgs but have heard the word "tippy" used a few times on this board and that does put me off a bit. Not because I think it would be a continual problem but because where I am we suffer moderate winds quite a bit on exposed beach breaks. I'm in a cold country too in winter so although I bet this board is great fun surfing I might get a tad put off if I am wrestling with it too much in chop or wind.
I'll have to think on a bit more......I've got the 8 9 Word Wide and 9 7 Stun Gun as possibles
too.....

I've had a good look at those two and am certain both are just a bit small for me. The StunGun definitely needs some juice to get going as well. He needs to do a 9'4x32"x 150L worldwide...

He IS bringing out a 9 3 Worldwide which I think will be 32 wide going by the rest of the models in the WW line up. He is also doing a 7ft 9 for small folks. Stun Gun probably not that great for my waves when I look at the volume tail shape etc.
yeah - think it has just gone into production. The man himself is good for answering enquiries on his personal Facebook page - was discussing a couple of things and he just mentioned that he was expanding the WW range.
Just to confirm.....it is 9 3 x 32 and 154 litres.....the new WW when they come off the production line.
