Does the JP surf as well as the starboard whopper? Anyone who has surfed both boards have an opinion?
I suspect the JP wood sandwich is perhaps better quality than the budget AST whopper?
Am looking for a stable sup for lumpy bumpy days. I know the whopper handles big unruly surf surprisingly well .....was wondering if the JP is equally capable
Is winter time ....one can buy a new whopper plus crap paddle and dodgy leash for $1500. Which is pretty good.....it wouldn't break your heart if you snapped it
Or....a certain company has a never been in the water JP that was dinged in transit and now repaired for the same price.....also with paddle and leash
I haven't surfed the jp but I can't imagine it would go as well as the whopper, the jp has a much squarer tail whereas the whopper has a nicely drawn in pin tail. For a big board the whopper really is sweet so easy yet turns really well and will hold its own in most conditions especially if you have a few extra kgs to throw into it. I can't comment on the SB ast construction but the jp wood construction is solid as a rock, the paint chips pretty easy but the hull stays watertight ( they should just make the whole thing out of whatever it is under the paint that stuff is bullet proof)
I see.....no aussies jumping to the defence of the JP option. Of course if one was especially flush you would be buying the Jimmy Lewis Maestro

The JP 10 x 33.5 in action my boys on the ftont me at the back taking some small runners to the beach.
I also have a JP fusion 9'8 x 31 a great board. I use the 10 x 33.5 with my boys and also have surfed it across all conditions point breaks and beach breaks and its a very user friendly sup. That said i have not surfed the Starboard whopper so l can not realy comment there.
I would grab a demo board as its the only way to realy find out if thats the right board for you. Have fun finding out!
