anyone demo or sup' or own the JP 8'2" slate ?, just wanted to check out the suitably for a 2nd board for the summer mush for a 88/90 kg supper, currently ride. Jp 9'2" pro for all conditions. It's great for good waves, just want something for the smaller musher days ?
Gday Nerdy,
I'm around 97kg and my "go to" board is also the 9'2" JP Surf Pro. I had the opportunity to demo the 8' JP slate last year (2016) at Merimbula in small clean fast waves on the bar. I thought it was the best board that I demoed over the weekend. I found it stable to paddle and quick on a wave. I'm not aware of the difference between that board and the current model.
Hiya ... Ive got a similar 'summer' board in the naish raptor 7'0 x 95ltr.... the wide tail of these designs transforms bad / slack / mushy / low power waves and breaks ... Ive jumped off my regular narrow tail model and onto a widetail tomo design (raptor/slate etc) in the same session and couldn't believe how much EXTRA flow/drive/looseness you can generate ... you feel like your flying around on mushy waves and having enough lift / speed to pinch turns off at will ... that you know a regular shape you would be pumping like crazy , lacking speed , unable to get quick enough acceleration to have good entry speed into turns .... My regular shape gets used more (I surf alot of good waves) , but when its summer slack or just whizzing down to the closest beach to grab a quick surf due to a narrow time window etc - these style of boards just rip --- pick one up - you wont be dissapointed ...
