Hi

I have a Starboard widepoint 8'2 (32 inch wide, 123 liters) in carbon from 2015 which ive used for about 2 yrs

In small waves its fun but looking for a more performance surf sup when waves (all beach break) are better and cleaner, and waist to head+ higher. Im 90kg, reasonably fit, windsurfed for 25+ yrs but not an expert surfer or sup-er

Looking specifically at these 2 boards...will the 8'6 be a step too far / difficult for 90kg in chop, beach breaks?
Anyone ridden both ?

- The 8'6 is 113 liters, and 29 inc wide....a big difference to my wide point!
- The 8'10 is 128 liters...so a few liters more than the widepoint, but 30 inch wide...2 inches less...but looks (on paper) to have a much more pulled in nose and tail and thinner rails

Heart kinda says 8'6....head definitely says it will be too ambitious and I should go 8'10

Any feedback please?Northy

Both are great boards, that I would travel with anywhere. They both surf very similar but the 8'6" of course is just a tad more up and down. But at your weight and if you plan to spend some time in Real World Conditions (light chop, reverb off the beach, longer than an hour and a half sessions) The 8'10" is going to be a lot easier for you to manage and extend your session before leg fatigue sets in. I would take either board out in chest to double head high any day. Just one of the shapes that I would change anything. I use faster rocker boards or a longboard style board when it's smaller or gutless. They still perform in smaller stuff but you can't have everything in one board. I'm 84 kilo's on my best days. I've used both boards extensively since the latest shape upgrade a couple of years ago. So if you only plan on glass, go 8'6", but if you want something that will be more stable for your weight on an average day, go 8'10. And like I said, your giving up just a little in performance mostly due to 4 more inches of swing weight. Have fun. I'm a fan of the Pro construction as well.

I would say the same as Shlogger. Better have a board a tad too big than too small. Especially since you have a long windsurfing experience, you are used to manage bigger boards (and if you have 25 years of experience, you are not a teenager anymore :-) ).
And since the JPs are narrower with more pulled in nose&tail, you will need some comfort to help you there...

Many thanks Shlogger and Colas for your insight - that's kinda where my head was at - just wanted to check

PS
I think im 99% set on the JP as I hear only good stuff and it has a windsurf insert....better I think than Fanatic pro, and Severne pro doesn't have the windsurf option. Any other model I should throw in the mix before I commit?
