Looking for advise on a board to go SUPing with my pup, I'm 174cm, 64kg and the pup is 15kg border collie.
Must be inflatebale due to car size and storage.
We demo'd the two sunny king iSUP's (from th SUPwarehouse.com) on the weekend
the standard 10'6" x 31" x 4" $950 on special from $1450
and the race style 12'6" x 30" x 6" $1150 on special from $1650
the 12'6" was slightly more stable and only noticeable when I had both dogs on my board but other then that I couldn't tell the difference.
Anyone had experiance with this brand?
Any other good iSUP brands I should look at? Any you can recommend?
Fanatic, Starboard, Naish and a few more.
Whichever you choose make sure it's reputable and is backed by a decent manufacturer.
I have a Sunny King solid board for the last 3 years but no experience with their iSup range. Really nice friendly people and very helpful. The 10'6" board is light and glides well, surfs ok but turns like a log. My biggest issue has been it damages very easily and once the skin is opened up you can see how thin it really is and the quality of the foam but I guess it's made to a low price point and that is what you get for the price. I would rather pay more and get better quality- I would take the same view with an iSup-
cheap price equals cheap joins, lower quality material and a shorter life span
Red Paddle lead the market . I am very happy with my Starboard isup (deluxe version not the zen) . Best not to skimp on costs for an isup . YouTube some reviews on red paddle from supboarder
Red Paddle is the leader for good reasons, quality, light & durability.
The 10'6" Ride would be perfect!
Its the worlds biggest isup seller.
10'6" x 32".
Comes with double action pump for fast pump ups, or you can order an adapter that can be used at the service station.
One thing I would suggest with a dog is to choose a board with deck pad all the way to the nose of the board if you can find one. iSUPs can be slippery suckers and your dog will dig its claws in if it feels unsteady.
I've had a look at the 10'6" Red Board, it sounds pretty good for myself but I plan to paddle with the pup most times should I consider the 10'8" with with a wobbly pup I can imagine it would be just that little bit more stable. Any major draw backs I should consider between the 10'6" and 10'8" besides the additional weight when carrying?
One small point - the red paddle carry bags are great - roll them or wear them like a back pack. Very good quality. I bought a used iSup and a new red paddle bag (the bag with the used sup was crap).
The Red 10'8" will offer more stability than the 10'6", even though the 10'6 is very stable. 10'8" will be slower, however dependant on your combined weight with your dog work well. Still quite light as the MSL technology has shaved a few kilos off previous Reds.
Have fun
Regarding Red Paddle, I think you'd enjoy the 11' Sport more than the 10'6 Ride. As you get used to paddling, you'd probably grow into the 11'. If your dog is very big and restless on the board, the 10'6 might be good, or even better, one of the Explorers. The 10'8 ride will be big and unwieldy.
RED Paddle is by far the best inflatable SUP out there. I've seen the Sunny Kings. RED don't make anything but inflatable SUP boards. They do all the R & D and the others try to copy. All the other brands are either camping type brands eg Coleman - Sevylor or they are regular SUP manufacturers, who just add inflatables to their range. No real commitment to the concept, just cashing in on the market.
