Getting close to buying next board , budget restraints dictate it will be 2nd hand but thats what is .Was pretty much set on getting on a hokua le 8 0 but the closer I get the more nervous I get about the 80 litres volume , i like all the other dimensions theyre a good lookin board .
The JP pro surf models have just caught my eye The 8 0 looks good with only slightly fuller dimensions and 95 litres ! but then I see the 7 4 has 90 litres volume and shorter again excites me .
Im around 75 kg about 5 7 tall just sold a 9 foot hokua ,had no stability worries with that in any conditions
Does volume equal stability and anyones feedback on the two / three boards would be gladly recieved..

PS JP pro 8 0 v 8 2 how much difference in performance would the extra inch width make

Cheers Pat

If it is really 80 liters, avoid.
It would be too hard for a single board, if you are not pro level.
95 should be fine. 90 also, if you are young.

Be aware that in winter the wetsuit will add a good 5kg to your weight, so if the volume is too close to your limits, all will be good in summer, but Winter will be hard!
For instance I am OK with 125l for my 100kg in winter. I have a 120l board that was fine in summer, but noticeably harder in winter...

Yeah - you don't want to go too low in volume as you will pay for in the choppy/windy sessions. I reckon take your body weight and add 20kg and that = min volume for a good rider for most conditions. Width is as important as volume but this depends on board design which is a whole other topic. I am your height but 10kg heavier and I had the 9' Hokua @125L and have chopped down to a Fanatic Prowave 8'5 @ 109L and a Deep Minion @105L. I reckon I now need a 9'3 @130L for choppy conditions as I have hit the limit of width and volume with the Fanatic and Deep boards and want to have an easier time when it's choppy/windy.

Agreed. I'm 100 and recently sold a 9'0" Starby pro which was 118 litres. I was comfortable in glass on it but had to surf a different board when it got overly windy or choppy. Bought the new Fanatic 9'2" at 130 and its very comfy in all conditions. The JP surf boards are very nice too. The 9'2" JP was another favourite. I'd recommend going the 8'0" or even 8'2" for your 75.

I'm waiting on a new 8'8" Airborne to arrive which will be my low volume board at 123 litres. Will still be comfy on it in messy surf.
