Hi everyone I'm a 59 year old SUP surfing woman for quite a few years. I'm 6ft and 80 kg wanting ro step up my game. I have a 9'5 Sunova speed and love it but just wanting to turn easier and get more fun on the wave. I want to feel stable out there but just still go fast pick up waves easily and turn without having to go all the way back on the board.Im tossing up between Sunova the Ghost 8'10 or starboard spice 8'8 both about 140 litres and around 32 wide can anyone offer advise pls!
I like the idea of the ghost but actually don't like the deck colour at all and love the starboard colors. yes I do care if it's pretty!??

You could go custom Sunova and design your own . or Smik

A semi-custom like Sunova offers: just +10% on the price, but you chose your own colors, more than worth it if you "like pretty"...

Hi WhatsSup, I absolutely agree.. It DOES matter what your board looks like!
You should LOVE it, and luckily Sunova has an amazing design team that will work with you to achieve the perfect color design whether a solid color or any amazing tint, blend, artwork you want.
They really do come up with some very original, one of a kind paint jobs for you

When you add the custom charge for a Ghost, it may still be less than a carbon Spice, so you can feel free to go with whichever board suits your eye.

What's up ,Back to the board shape,IMO,from memory spice has a bevel under rail,so even with width it will still be tippy ,whereas the ghost has stability built into the design, creek and Bert completely re designed this model for us punters ,with the ability to grow with your improvements, right up to elite level. Disclaimer ..i have not ridden either, but am familiar with the design traits of both having ridden nearly every design that has come and gone since sup started

If you want turns at a high volume to weight ratio, maybe the Wedge suits that better than Spice, I think you're still gonna need to get to the tail/rail on these to get what you're looking for. Infinity Wide Speed seems like another option.

I have the 8"8 and 9"3 splice in carbon. Absolutely love them and highly recommended

I have an 8'8 Ghost. Im 95kg. I have really enjoyed this board so far. I think they look way better in the flesh. I haven't paddled the Spice, but to me the Ghost is very versatile. It is stable, an excellent paddler and surfs nicely if you are a bit further forward.

I think if you are on the Speeed already then go with a Ghost. Custom colors are easy to get with Sunova and I always just ask for the classic "whitewash" on mine. I was hoping the local shop would order a few Ghosts which I really wanted to check out but I think they went with the Creek instead.

My five cents for what its worth and this is hard to phrase but boards like the Spice and the Hipster Twin, give you additional stability and over a performance board of the same size which will allow you to drop down in length and potentially volume but if you aren't riding sizes in the performance volume range for your weight and the Spice is still going to be "large" for you then you are better riding a board that is designed to be ridden larger eg the Ghost, Steeze, Wedge or my all time favourite larger board the JL Destroyer. For example I ride an 8'3" Smik Spitfire when the surf is good the rest of the time I can drop down to a 7'11" or even 7'8" hipster. But if I go for an 8'3" Hipster its a bit boaty and anything larger is a super tanker whereas my 8'5" destroyer is still manoeuvrable and doesn't feel boaty at all, there are other factors at play obviously, rail volume rocker etc but if you are riding larger boards , get ones that are designed to be ridden that way. Cheers

Well said!

In particular, most "pro" models (pulled-in nose and tail) are not designed to work oversized.
