Gday again! First off I would like to thank the gentlemen down at Sunshine Coast stand up paddle centre for being such great fellas to deal with , big double thumbs up . I walked in yapping about how I wanted to go from my 11 ft 34 wide tanker to something I could carve the waves with like a young stud . "well mate" , said Colin your about 40 ish bit over 100 kg lets get you out on the fusion 10'2 take the 9'8 as well but I think the 10 will suit you . I told him I was looking at the all wave and the x32 but as he explained the longer board would get me more waves and the higher deck with the low rails would have it turning like a smaller board . So off I rushed down to the river mouth in 4 ft mush with wind and tides doing me no favours . After say 15 minutes I had my first real wave ......what a buzz the first bottom turn I did was so quik I nearly got high sided the second of the top was something I had never experienced on a sup before it was amazing . My fav thing is sitting back hand on a wave and cruising the line this board did it easily . Catching waves was a breeze and I honestly think the raised deck with the low rails make a huge impact on the turns . My only real fault was it pearled going straight but I think that had more to do with the thruster set up all in all I am very close to getting this board in the 10'2 . The 98 for me was just a nightmare while waiting for a decent set but when they came it was a very very tight ride super reactive just to much work for my weight and height 158 ltrs . I will still try the allwave out hopefully soon in the 9'4 but I really did like the ease the jp got onto the waves in the 10 '2 cheers again Colin bloody good fun . If anyone out there has any other boards they think would be good for Maroochydore river mush I would love to hear them Thankyou
I had the Fusion 10"2' 32. Great board. Have since down sized but wish I kept it. Can't go wrong. They are so easy to cruise around on, wait out the back and catch heaps of waves.
I had the 10'8, then the 10'2 and then the 9'8..............so I know fusions
I was 120 kgs on the 10'8 and progressed down to the 9'8 at 110 kgs now I'm 103 kgs and getting something smaller.
Everything Colin told you is correct, personally I would persist with the 9'8 at your weight and age, it took me a little while to step down but its another level over the 10'2
"first bottom turn I did was so quik I nearly got high sided"
Don't mix your bike talk with your surf lingo or some one will tear chicken strips off you!
There is a difference!
Bikes: Shiny side up
Surf: Shiny side down
Thanks shire , I admit I only got about 30 minutes on the 9'8 and was pretty stuffed from all the fun I had on the 10'2 maybe I will take it out by itself with a full belly and ready to paddle because I really did like the rush from the 9'8
Hahaha fair enough ! I couldn't think of any other way to describe the sharpness of the turn lessened learnt
Wow! Now that's a real endorsement for the jp . Can I ask you what the main difference in the rides where was it the stability or the wave entry very keen to know ? Thankyou
A fella I know has a 10'2" JP Fusion and seems to catch plenty of waves on it. I wouldn't mind a 10ft board to increase my wave count on the small days...cause to me that is what SUPS are best for.. And ya get plenty of those type days on the sunny coast.
I have a 2012 9'2" Allwave @160L that I have had since new and I have 14/15 8'10" Walden Enigma CV @159L that I bought second hand in new condition just out of curiosity..
The Allwave is a dependable workhorse, and the Enigma is as the name implies due to not having any decent waves on it. The Enigma is very tippy because it is thick, not as wide and has a high centre of gravity.
What I would like is a Starboard 8'6" Hypernut and 10' board of some description with around 160L of volume, which would probably end up being my most used board..
Agree totaly the more I look at the build of the starboards the more I like them ,they seem to be the best build quality from what I have read and heard from my windsurfer mates . The prices also reflect that , the hyper it is the coolest looking board going in my opinion I looked one over at Caloundra but no way could I handle it so maybe a widepoint has all the right numbers I just haven't seen one in the flesh yet and would love to know what the tail rail looks like
