Which one are you testing? What width? And which construction?

I have the 26.5 AST. Took it out this morning in pretty clean conditions with a head high swell on and the board was amazing. It punches out through whitewater so well that I actually fell off the back being over prepared for the hit. Its a strange little board - the only time it felt unstable was immediately after climbing back on after a fall and it would wobble like crazy but not actually tip but the second I started to paddle it just went rock solid again. I have to admit that its probably the slowest race board I have paddled but without doubt the most fun. I reckon the 29.5 wide model would be the most comfy and most fun offshore race sup going and if rough water and surf is more important than flatwater speed then you couldnt go wrong. I would be keen to find out if there is much difference in stability between the old 26.5 and the new 27.5 also.
I must qualify that I have only had 3 race sups in the surf and although I am an experienced surfer I am a novice at paddling race sups. Gotta say tho that the board had no problem handling shoulder to head high clean waves today - very very impressed. Its gunna make my decision very hard indeed what to buy

I was first sup out at 5.30 and stayed till about 6.25. It was big but not too scary early. To be honest tho it looked pretty small till I got halfway out thr back and sets rolled in and then I was questioning my choice of equipment I tell ya. Had a blast on a coupla bigger ones which had me working pretty hard down the line and all went well until I got cocky and attempted a big cutty !!
U just cant do that big a move on that big a board on that big a wave - thank god for leg ropes (OAM brand) it was a lot of fun but got outta there as the crowd built before I kooked too many or ran over anyone.

I love the Fanatic fly race 12.6, it is a very forgiving board in tough conditions. I even took it out on a downwinder in 14' swell. A little scared but but very comfortable. It recovers well at second bouyancy and cruises well in the flat too.
