Hi all
Been given the green light on a new sup from the boss.
Had my eye on an 8'10 creek for a while but not so sure now looking at the smik spitfire 8'6.
Anyone had experience with these? Any feedback appreciated. I'm gonna see if i can get a demo but i know the creek is hard to get a hold of.
I'm a bit over 80kg suping a couple years my hokua x32 is 150l and way too big i also have a130l evoke still really stable but prefer the hokua.
Cheers for thehelp
I've got a 9'1 Creek but have never ridden the Smik. Looking at the 2 boards though, it would be a real close call to recommend one over the other. Personally, really happy with the Creek. For things like build, quality etc... Both are top of the range.
Best advice is to try and demo... Hard when you have the finance managers approval and are frothing... but that's the only accurate way to separate them. It will come down to a personal preference...
The sizes you are looking at seem spot on for your weight.... you will notice the difference in performance for sure!!
What has attracted you to those specific models?
what type of surf do you typically go out in?
What requirements have you set for your new board?
Have you considered other boards, such as maybe the flow, speeed or flash?
For what its worth I dont think you can go past Sunova boards for build quality and strength.
I recently bought a new board and started a table with all the different variables to help me decide.
I have a Spitfire and a Speeed (not a creek I realise). As mentioned before it depends what waves you ride. My Spitfire is lighter, wider and shorter so much better in small cleaner conditions than my speeed which handles pretty well anything well but is not as loose. But that is an 8 5 v 8 10 so not really a fair comparison. Build wise the Sunova is more solid but that comes at the cost of being heavier. In some conditions the weight is an advantage. A very personal choice between the two, either way you will be happy if you get the right size for what you want the board to do.
I ride my Spitfire more than my Speeed now because of the lively feel, but sometimes I wish I had gone out on the Speeed. Especially in lumpy bumpy surf, the balsa construction soaks up chop so well.
Spitfire everytime for me, Have owed both boards, understand it's a personal choice, but for me it's the Spitfire.

Had a ride on the 8.10 creek in 3.4 foot rippy beachies and loved it.The board went hard off the bottom and straight up,was able to power out of turn into next one, really loved it.Havent ridden spitfire so cant compare but had the twinser out at same time on same waves and im going the creek.Im 86 kegs 180 cm and creek was stable for me but i must add the smik was more stable just not right for me.Good luck.
2 very different boards.. traditional surfboard shape vs a mixed blend both have pros and cons but it depends what you want out of the board..
If you like the smik range take a look at the hipster twin ... it's somewhere in the middle of the two and could be what your looking for

Hey guys thanks for all the input!
Guess I'm looking for that unicorn board that handles all conditions well... i know that's not really possible... but some stability for those bumpy days and it'll be in bali once or twice a yr generally pretty clean.
I've managed to get a hold of a spitfire and maybe speeed to demo this weekend. Fingers crossed the conditions are good!
Slugga the twin looks good too ... making the decision tough!

Mikez,
I am in Shellharbour and have the Creek 9'1. Not predicted to be a great swell this weekend but will be in the water Sat and Sun morning... You are welcome to take the Creek out for a run if you like as I know they are hard to demo. Away after that for the next few weeks but the offer will stand once I get back.... Flick me a message if you are keen. I know there is an 8'10 getting around here somewhere too......
I have the 8'10" Creek and love it. Can't fault it so far, great fun board, really well finished and looks fantastic. I have been really nasty to it already and it appears bulletproof.
I haven't owned or surfed a Spitfire, but do have a SMIK custom and the construction and finish are excellent.
I would always reach for the Creek first, there is something I love about these Balsa boards, the flex, and the real connection to the wave.

Hey yeh sounds great I'm in shellharbour too.
Swell does look small but if the wind holds off there'll be something around.
I'll try be down the farm Sunday.
That balsa look is real nice very different to anything around.
Sounds like they are both pretty good solid boards probably wouldn't complain with either

Looks like the wind is out of the E S/E for the next couple of days but really light. I'll check the farm at about 7-7.30 but with those light winds Warrilla or Lake entrance might be okay too. Low tide at 7.30 and the farm has been breaking well on the low to high incoming.
If you see me there on the Creek, say gidday and take it for a spin. If you are definitely going to make it to the farm I'll wait unless its really no good.
Cheers
Paul

Was down the farm about 6am looked way too bumpy ended up at warrilla couple of small ones there. Hope ya got a wave over the weekend
No problem... must have just missed you. The swell started to pick up after the turn of tide and I had a good 3hrs... If you are still looking after I get back from my travels, still welcome to try out the creek.
