I am looking to buy a Race/flatwater/touring SUP, I have been paddling an old 12'6" x 26" plastic sailboard for a few months now and am ready to buy a purpose built SUP.
I am looking at a new 12'6" x 26" Fibreglass no name SUP described as a Race/Tourer.
Or a secondhand 2010 Fanatic Fly Carbon 14' x 28" SUP. Which is obviously a fair bit bigger, could it be too big?
I weigh 78kg and will be mostly paddling for fitness on Lakes in light winds, with occasional downwind run in big chop, and maybe with a race once a year.
Any feedback welcome before 7/5/16.

Well as you know they make boards over 18 foot now ..so no not to big ...
I would also buy the 14' fanatic ..
have fun twice bitten ..
you will notice a heap of difference paddling a board that is made for paddling too .
The fanatic you mention is not a good board to down wind at all but is a great cruiser/odd flatish water race for sure.
Length equals glide so the longer the easier but I also think with the right shape a 10ft/11ft could be the perfect crusing/exploring board.
I would go wider than 26" if you plan to go in chop. I love mine, but until you have more time on the water you will spend a lot of time in the water if you go too narrow. 14' x 28" should work - but find a downwinder.
Thanks for all the feedback guy's, I bought the Fanatic, had a awesome 2 Hour paddle in glassy calm conditions on an old stomping ground, Yallourn storage dam (Lake Narracan). Can't wait to paddle it in the 5 km Sunrise Paddle at Lakes Entrance next Sunday morning, part of the Gippsland Lakes Paddle Challenge event this weekend.
