Just thought I would share my project build, maybe encourage some of the like minded people to have a go......
I set out to build a new style sup board that would take a foil.
I wanted to go short but still have enough volume to float me, i ended up building a 7'6" X 30" x 4.5"
115ltrs
I have had Sups for about 8 years.
Here is a few pics of the build.
All the best.
Steve

well you made that that look simple !!
what weight did it tirn out ? Carbon wet layed out on bottom ?
what do you have on deck beside timber veneer.
Nice pics and good to see more guys giving making their own boards a go.
Post some pics of it in the water.

Hi Norm
The wieght is 10.8kgs
The carbon 2 layers.1 x uni and 1 x twill both 200gsm
Then a 100gsm glass all wetted up the vac bagged.
The deck is Paulawania i put it through the thicknesser took it down from 6 to 4mm which was glued to the eps with vac bag.
Then 2 layers of glass =14oz.
First thing i made was the stringer then the rocker bed to form the blank.
7" nose 1.3/4" rear rocker.
Cut you stringer to suit the board that you want.
Download AKU shaper and have a play around with the shape.
Hope this helps![]()
You are my hero for actually doing this....and creating something that also actually looks so professional!
I must ask:
Have u given it a run yet?
What were u using prior to the DIY set up and how does it compare?
Do u think it might still work with some normal fins (if fin fin plugs were installed) forofing around in small waves - or in places to risky/crowded for foil?
Again, my hat is off to u....

Hi Steve
I have only been able to give it a go behind my kite.
(Short vid above)
But went awsome i was so happy with it gets up real early and easy to cruise on, i even breached the foil, but didnt pearl the board i didnt even fall off.
Thanks to the volume in the nose and 7" of rocker.
It should work with normal fins in.
I have a single concave from the front to just past midway piont then fades into double concave, soft rails untill 400mm from rear which are sharp.
The first hydrofoil i seen was back in 2013 kiting.
I had to build one.![]()
So i had a steep learning curve building then riding then altering then riding etc.just behind a kite.
12 boards in and 6 hydrofoils later.
Just early this year i had seen the sup hydrofoils but looking so good.?? so with the seasons about to change, i needed to build a sup foil for autumn.
I have other sups that i have been using for the last 8 yrs.
So a nice addition to the toy collection, you can never have enough toys!!!!!
Cheers

Hi Sm
The profile is just an
" Eppler airfoil" shape google them and have a look, then start sanding your wood core to the shape.
The thing with foils is that it doesn't have be perfect, just as close as you can get it by hand.
The more you do the better you get.![]()

Mate, your board and foil look awesome. Very impressive build and I'm sure I would f*ck it up completely!!

Lol!
Give it a go you never know just practice on a piece of foam 12" 12" sand it , shape it, glass it , filler coat then paint or polish.
Then when you feel confident make a board.
Rember eps or polystyrene will only take epoxy.
Others foams will take polyester resin.![]()
