I put my speeed up for sale on the local FB SUP & Surf pages, had a couple of calls but no-ones handed any cash over yet.
We're coming up to Autumn here, but have just had the most awesome sunny summer and you'd be right in thinking everyone is out on the water...
Sadly no-one is buying S/H..
I don't think this is specific to any brand. The SUP market seems to have saturated a bit, so it is harder to sell boards, new or second hand.
This said, you can still sell it if you lower the price a bit. I'd say the second-hand prices here in France have decreased by about 20%.
I like a road trip...
And I'd like a 12'6" PSH...
But a bit far to go, even for me.
Over here there's bugger all good second hand boards on the market. A tonne of cheaper import boards, brand new models or people still wanting $1500+ for second hand naish etc
Just looking at the classifieds here, if I ever make it over to oz again I'll be bringing a few used boards back to Oahu for my quiver. Market here seems to be quite a bit tighter.
i've lowered prices so much on my 2nd hand boards that i'm almost giving them away. For example, i got just $400 for an almost brand new Sunova Schroom, and cannot sell a SupSports carbon board at any price (down to $300). I wouldn't say the used market is down 20%, I'd say it almost doesn't exist. all the more reason to be very careful about buying any board.

Cant get enough of them over here Gizzie. Remains our biggest selling performance SUP. Try selling when there isn't snow on the ground

I ordered mine from the mainland distributor, I also know a guy who bought one off of Jacy a while ago. There are a couple of shops that are listed as distributors on Sunova's page, but I don't think they have any stock on hand, they would just order for you.

And I am still sticking to my story of how I took my Sunova into local board repairers........they both laughed at me when I said "it has carbon rails"

I don't know about the OZ market, but here in France there seems to be some ceiling to the price of used SUPs.
Basically, above 600 euros you do not interest 99% of the potential buyers, only people specifically wanting this model... whatever price you bought the board as new: 700 or 2500 euros. So you have to wait potentially a long time for this 1% people to decide they want a new board and look at classifieds.
This ceiling seems to have moved to 500 euros now. I just sold 2 boards in a week at 500 euros. Friends trying to sell at 650 have still their boards after many months... My boards cost around 1000 euros as new, but it would be the same with boards at 2500 euros. This is why I could buy more than 40 boards along the years.
Add to this the fact that by having regular sales, with prices cut by 40-60% some brands are lowering the price people expect to pay a board.
In a nutshell, now basically most of the potential buyers have no idea that the price of new boards can vary a lot between models, and they have some psychological limits. Maybe they will be more educated in the future?
Okay Colas.......but you have to bring quality into the equation......boards like Jimmy Lewis that have high production standards....as opposed to some cheap product?
Sunova says its a high quality product.........but maybe the second hand market disagrees?
I've bought two Sunovas in NZ, used but very good, almost new condition, a few months old, for less than half the new price. They were models I was specifically looking for.

Aus is basically the only other advanced economy that is heading towards a recession.
There are lots of factors for this:
- Political forecast growth for Aus is for a strong China and that has completely fallen away recently.
- We are the most indebted and we have the highest home prices in the world (relative to income).
- Recent tightening of lending standards for investors/buyers has completely cooled the real estate market (which was the only thing keeping the economy going the last couple of years). Many stand to lose a lot once negative equity begins to bite and panic selling begins.
- Living standards are falling sharply in Melbourne and Sydney, mostly due to ludicrous levels of immigration.
- We have had basically zero income growth for the average wage earner for the last 10 years (mostly to the crazy immigration levels).
- Borrowing costs will rise sharply as will day to day goods once the dollar begins free fall. And with less disposable income - the first thing that stops selling is discretionary goods.
There are a lot of other reasons for why i'm so pessimistic. But this is a SUP forum so I won't dig myself into a hole I can't get out of.
The red herring with consumer goods is:
Massive changes in consumer habits to which most retailers/manufacturers cannot keep up with.
I can only think of 1 consumer item that you buy today (other than property) that may appreciate over time. A Rolex. Sure the odd collectable car will come about, but overall 2nd hand goods are worthless.
I bought a $14k Colnago bike 2 years ago. Barely rode it. Couldn't get $3500 for it second hand. Could have been sold as new in a shop. 50-60% off for a 2nd hand Sunova... I would have dreamed to get that on my bike.
Apple is the only other company I can think of really, that totally controls how they retail. They launch a product on a Thursday worldwide and you can buy it Friday morning basically anywhere.

No, that's just that you have two second hand markets.
[1] The dedicated SUPers who read SUP forums, reviews, know what are the advantages and drawbacks of each brand (construction for JL) and shapes. People you reach by classified on SUP forums. They will want to pay for quality but I guess they represent only 1% of the potential buyers, so you may have to wait a LONG time for it to sell
[2] The general public, that you reach with big Classified sites, like Craiglist in the US, "Le bon coin" in France... For them all brands are alike, and they do not see why they should pay more for a JL than a cheap no-name. The amount of potential buyers is huge, and it sells fast if you are under the psychological threshold... or not at all.

BTW - $18-20k Road bicycles are becoming the norm for guys who are into it... I know it's crazy, but it is true.
