Hi All!
I'm just wondering if any heavier guys have tried the 14 x 26.5 Allstar? (293 L volume)
I'm currently 110kg (Slowly on my way down to 90Kg)..
But the starboard website states 90kg as the top rider weight. Has anyone pushed this out a little?
Mostly flat water at this stage.

at 110 I'd go the wider 28" AllStar, you're not going to lose much but you'll gain a good bit from stability (more stable = easier to put your power down rather than battling stability).
Or try 14 x 27.25 Lahui Kai if you can get your hands on one (tried 'em both, found the LK a bit more stable than the starby but YMMV). similar to Allstar but different.
Defiantly get the wider option.. even once you've dropped to 90kgs the wider board will still be best IMO.
Hi DJ
I saw two of your videos last night: 1. on taping a blade and, 2. the Hokua movie camera strapped onto the end of your paddle... and have to say they are great!!!!!
Do you make movies for a living... if not you should.
And, where did you get the slowed down version of 'California Dreaming', superlative music choice?????... considering that one for my funeral song.
On a serious matter. I am 90kgs and 53 and just started the whole SUP addiction. I have surfed for 45 years, including trips to Bali and Fiji and now ride all coasts of Tasmania. I love the long board drawn out bottom turns feel rather than the more rad-snappy quad thing. I also have a strong love for Naish having wave-sailed Robbie's gear for years.
I know you ride the Hokua X32 but I am thinking for my first foray into a more sup surf style of board the standard Hokua GT 9.5 would be a good ride? Would you say go X32 still or even go up to standard GT 9.10?
cheers and keep making SUP movies...
Jack
I am 105kg at the moment and paddle a 14' x 28" All-star use it for flat-water and the odd downwinder, even caught the odd wave at river mouth at Cotton Tree river. Super stable and gives me plenty of confidence when downwinding. I have paddled the narrower All-star's, Sprint's and Race's but still prefer the extra width of the 28".
Stability = Speed because if you are stuggling to stay upright then you aren't paddling efficiently of effectively.

Hi Jack and welcome to the breeze.. ![]()
Thanks for for your comments about my vids.. I'm just mucking around with my GoPro's and learning as I go..
I enjoy doing the vid's and comments like yours (and many others) encourages me to keep doing it..
I'm also an old windsurfer.. and Robby Naish fan.. I'm about 58 and 95kgs.. but I don't have the surfing background like you.. I may have met you once when I was on the vic windsurfing team competing at the nationals when they were in Tassie.. (Marrawah) many years ago..
IMO the new 9'6" X32 Hokua would be perfect for you.. I struggle a bit on my 9'1" if it gets a bit choppy.. I might even trade mine for the 9'6" one day..
Although my X32 is an LE I think next time I'd but the GT mostly for the money saving.. A friend has a new 9'10" Hokua and he loves it but I'm thinking the X32's with their extra width and increased nose rocker is the way to go..
Hi DJ
How amazing that you remember me from windsurfing when you were in Tassie years ago.
With two young children these days heading out to sea for hours is not viable. I have our 9 yr old Bella SUPing well and it's like a new lease on life for me.
Eastcoast waves (Bicheno Denison River) are fast and steep faced. My big C4 Waterman 10.6 is a handful. Looking forward to a new GT Hokua. Which one not sure? Take your lead on x32 and construction.
BTW Which rail tape do you recommend?
You need to say who sang the slow Cali Dreaming song?
Cheers Jack
Pretty sure that was the first track on the new Diana Krall cd called Wallflower..
