The dimensions are similar: weight, volume, both are 32 inch wide.

Which is best on the wave?

Anyone tried both?

tried the 2014 versions of both. had the starby out in 2ft beachbreaks nice and loose very stable turned nice great little board. ended up buying the jp though to me it seemed noticeably faster down the line possibly due to the straight fin angles. biggest selling point was the rail shape felt finer more accurate and easier to get on rail and hold it there. Still the are a very similar ride, very fish like feel can get a bit skittery on a solid wall lot of width in the tail. super fun on head high and under though. I'd probably just choose on price and looks

I don't know about the 8'2 but i have the 8'8 jp and i can tell you it's a very stable and fun board that turns on a dime and i can only assume the 8'2 would be the same.
I tried the 8'10 starby once (not in idealy condition though i must admit) and it felt somehow a little bit corky and somehow slower to paddle but also very fun and easy to turn.
I think jp has nailed it with the rail thickness. Can't recoment them enough.

Matt

That's just mean! Showing Victorians blue skies, glassy waves, and wear a spring suit.

Makes me jealous.

Tomorrow I demo a JP wide body surf 8"10. I'm 74kg. I think it will be one size too big. But at 7 deg in the morning I'll be glad to not fall in

I agree. I took out an 8"8' jo wide body surf today. It was a bit big. I think I would outgrow it too quickly.

Interesting to see my surfer mates gave a turn. This is clearly not a beginner board.

I'm 74 kg too and have the 8'2 jp wide body pro. Took me around 10-15 hours on it before I became dialled in on it but now am improving on it very quickly. I came down from a 10'5... Had it out in 15 knot slush this morning and no probs...
