I've just got hold of one on Demo, so far I've had nothing like your conditions and am quite jealous..
Cool pics, be nice to have a few words about it too..

Thanks STC and sunovabouy
The shroom is an adictave fun board I got it because I wanted a board to surf in bumpy cross/onshore waves with more stability than my 8.5 speeed and after reading reviews it seemed to tick all the boxes for what I wanted it for. I have changed fins to standard sup quad set up (fcs HI-1) which in my opinion gave me more control although feels like it turns flat when cutting back could be feet placement though as you do need to be right over the rail and constantly moving them around otherwise the board manuvers well and has great speed it does catch nose sometimes as well otherwise fun fun fun glad I've got it in quiver

Thanks for the review. Given that you have to move your feet around so much, does the profile of the deck feel unusual? (It isn't flat is it?)

Hi CSE.... it does feel unusual, because it is

Kind of nice to be able to change up pressure on the feet by simply angling them up the side slope.
Depending on the size, there is a flattish spot in the middle to stand on if you prefer...
but it doesn't bother me at all.... it's simply different.

Here is my quick & dirty sketch (done in preview)
This explains how the extremely concave deck and bottom work to carve a turn on a very fat tail board

I should add that the lifted rail side deck also adds a ton of volume and stability to a very thin board

Hi cse
like STC said it does feel a bit unusual to start with but quickly get use to it then I find it becomes comfortable

Fascinating! Love the vid. (Thanks, STC and Trino.) Great to see the innovation - that is the best example I know of where a board has been fully sculptured to meet a specific requirement.

You should have called it "Antacid" - it is just about the exact opposite of my Acid.

I am curious to know about the sizing decision. Normally the volume would be a key factor, but with those rails, and the wide nose and tail, it would seem that you could go short/low volume and still be OK with balance and get max maneuverability.

For reference, I ride an 8'3 Shroom at 107 kg, which with board weight is close to 1/1 ratio and it's easy for me.
The shape absolutely makes going shorter, low volume much easier.

Can I hop in on this?

I bought an 8'3 Shroom too, after my demo on it. It's a chop monster for sure so anything waist high and starting to crumble and it'll love. MOVE YOUR FEET (is that loud enough??) You have to play your back foot like a piano player, use it to bury the rails and the playful thing will make you giggle. I've found my front foot very near the handle and my rear foot all over the stomper pad and up and over the raised rail to turn and slash the board. Yes it'll carve a nice one but IMO it's a great slash and turn fun board.
I have had mine out in lots of conditions now and big sucky stuff isn't it's playground, the board slows up on steep ramps then drops, that's not fun when you want to shoot out front. Stay in lower less sucky and crumble and it's simply a stunning board. I've ridden it twin fin too, take the rears out in knee high for a laugh and it's just a skid pan with surprising drive.
I've had a 7'9 on demo too for a few months, this is the original size I was looking at but I chose the 8'3 in the end because of where I surf most (a 1k paddle out to the sandbar across a rip) The 7'9 is much tippier, it's a fabulous slash and drive board but does need more push and speed to get the best out of it IMO, a great board for sloppy faces and open faces again move your back foot around to get the best out of it and it will reward your effort with childish grins.
If I could warrant buying the 7'9 I would, but I've got too many boards now as it is (all Sunova)
IMO obviously.... be great to hear more surf adventures on Shrooms.
