2016 Starboard Allstar 14 x 25 hybrid /carbon

Paddled it yet?
I was really impressed with the weight of it compared to the carbon.

Had a couple of quick paddles but only in glassy conditions. Super stable. Feels wider than 25. Nice flat water glide too. Can't wait to get some downwind bumps...

Yeah they are a very good weight in comparison to the full carbon.

yeah for $4800 you been expecting the full carbon to be a lot lighter than it is for that kind of money.

Yeah agree can't really see where the full carbon is worth it in the all star. Makes sense for the ace and the sprint but the hybrid all stars in 12"6 and 14 all seem fairly light to me compared to the full carbon and at only 3k that's a bullet proof light board.

Looks better without the carbon-red-reindeer nose IMO

25 is crazy stable. To me feels like a 28. I'm 75kgs and 175cm.

beau has been talking it up, the 23". I had a paddle quick paddle and yes its stable. felt a bit heavy in the nose to what im used to .

but it does really go. and hard to believe its only 23" wide.

probably the world most stable 23" board easy


he'll using it in the paddle games. didn't seem troubled in and out of the surf on it at training. im taking into account how good he's too

I paddled both the 25" and 27" 14' Hybrid Carbon Allstars and I found the 25" a little tippy for me, but would probably be ok if only paddling flatwater. The 27" was super stable and felt as stable if not more so than my 2014 14' x 28" Allstar.
I am 6'1" and 105kgs

I've only been able to compare the 28" in carbon vs 25" and 27" in hybrid but I would guess it's about 1.5 kg difference or thereabouts. The new shapes are definitely more stable than the old ones. I'm about your height and weight and I never had a problem with the 25.5 from 2014. However I always found the shift from the 25" Ace down to the 23" Ace just a little too much for my liking. Not sure if the All Star will be the same.

Thanks for the comments everybody. Starboards 2016 website is running again (http://star-board-sup.com/2016/boards/14-0-x-23-all-star/). The listed difference in weight is 1,74kg. And if you calculate the +-10% tolerance out the difference might only be 1,4kg. I'm thinking of getting the Hybrid Carbon if i also upgrade my 12'6". It would be nice to test the two versions side by side, is the weight difference noticeable when paddling. I know it is not the same think if i just loose the 2kg from my body.

I had the opportunity to ride and evaluate the 2015 and 2016 Allstars Tuesday while in WA.

The 2015 14x26 (Carbon) was the board I spent the majority of my time on, expecting that it was going to be the one I bought.
Its a solid, fast, mildly tippy (in wakes and chop) for me board and I found that to step back and turn it was harder work than expected, of course I was only on it an hour and a half so this is only a short report and given the time I would have hopefully mastered the right balance point to achieve a better more confident turn. I was also paddling with a crew so didn't give me much time for this.

As we paddled back after the training session Ian from Auswind (thanks again mate) gave me the 2016 Allstar 14x25 (Hybrid Carbon) which I was initially reluctant to try thinking at 25" it was going to be less stable than the 2015 26" wide board.

All I can say is WOW! It was instantly quicker, felt more stable and allowed me to step back almost straight away to turn it. The performance difference between the two boards is night and day, better in favour of the 2016.. It also tracks better needing less course correction.

I loved it so much I've gone straight out and put a deposit on one.

How it rides in the waves is yet to be seen, this is a progression board for me so I'm expecting to swim a little in that process but if it behaves as well in the waves and down winding as it does on the flat, wind and mild chop then this is truly the best Allstar to date. Don't listen to the doubters about the odd hull configuration either, it absolutely works.

Yeah, but it does beg a question about whether subsequent years' models are better than the last. (Although I'm not saying that this has happened here). I think there have been a few times from the major brands when the new model has been inferior to it's predecessor.
