I surfed a 2014 8'-6" JP Australia Surf last week and really liked it, but I saw at the JP website that the 2015 8-6 Surf has been totally redesigned with a more pulled in nose, thinner rails, 1/8" thicker, and what JP calls a more "progressive rocker." In spite of the thinner rails and pulled in nose, they were still able to add 3 more liters of volume to it. (2014 = 110 liters verses 2015 = 113 liters)

I'm wondering if anyone has surfed BOTH the 2014 and the 2015 8'-6" Surfs?

If so, I have some questions, please...

1) DRIVE: I really liked how the 2014 has a wide sweet spot for turning and that I could move forward and drive it. Has the increased rocker on the 2015 narrowed the sweet spot for turning?

2) STABILITY & PADDLING: Does the pulled in nose and more rocker on the 2015 make it less stable to stand on and slower to paddle than the 2014?

3) SPEED: Has the increased rocker in the 2015 slowed the board down while trimming? In other words, when trimming, does the 2015 model require more pumping to maintain speed than last years model?

4) Any other thoughts on the differences between them will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

There is a video on here from piro's explaining the differences really well. I just sold my 2014 8'6 was a great board when it got over 4ft but honestly i wish I'd kept my widebody surf it was a lot easier to throw around. Ive had a sneek peek at the new 16 widebody it looks sick. Jp have pulled in the nose and tail and added 5 fin option. Luckily ive just picked up the 7'6 slate and omg if you have the chance try one. As stable as the widebody faster than the surf.can throw it round so much easier than both and the thing just bites on rail its fricken amazing its like ive given up supping for a faster more extreme version of it. Ill post some clips and a review once we get some more surf up here

I found the Piro's video after I started this thread and it helped a lot in understanding the differences between them.

I'm hoping someone can give me accurate nose and tail measurements for a 2015 JP Surf so I can compare it to the measurements of the 2014 I tried last week. (No shop on this side of the planet seems to have a 2015 8-6'er in stock.) Oh, and nose and tail rocker measurements would be awesome too. (I've been testing boards lately to see what I like and I'm keeping a database of the measurements for reference.)

I've just ordered a deep jc model so may have a cheap 8'2 wide body pro for sale in a couple of months... Just need to see how the deep goes first

Is the 2016 JP Widebody as wide as the 2015? I haven't seen any of the 2016 JP's yet. Is there somewhere online I can see them?

They have dropped the width an inch to 31 the volume is still 120ltrs for the 8'2. Havn't seen anything online yet either. Just got a sneek peek at the catalogue.

Will do Matt, yeah I was down at states too, JC was impressive to watch as were a few others too! the jp wb is too much board for me hence gone for the deep... Great to be able to custom exactly the dimensions you want.. Can't wait

I've heard they are gonna be $2999.... Getting a bit pricey!

Does anyone know what the tail measurement (12" from tail) of a 2015 8-6 JP Surf is?

Mattyongoldy, I am the guy on the us forum who recently had a sudden cardiac arrest.

My 7'6" JP slate that I pre-ordered 10 freaking months ago has finally arrived. Can't surf yet, but your comments regarding the JP Slate have rekindled the stoke to behave myself, do what the docs say like a good lad, so I can start riding that bad boy. Still have my Piros first gen fins waiting to install - gonna start with all five just for the hell of it!

Look forward to your review on the Slate!

Cheers, Clevo

Cbigsup glad to hear your looking on the mend and listening to the good doc's orders. I'll post a review shortly just wait on huey to cooperate with some swell. Good thing is you'll freak on the jp all it took was one wave and i knew i had to have one. Took off did 3 speed pumps was going so fast it felt like the board was hydroplaning off the top turns with only a bit off fin and couple of inches of rail in the water, drove off the bottom into a snap the thing came up so far on the inside rail could have swore all 3 fins were pointing skyward yet the rail bit like handbrake, then the board flattened out slid a foot or so then dropped cleanly back down the face where i proceded to fall off ungracefully. Will definitely post a full review to give you something to read while you recover i know there's not that much info out there. Was hoping to have some gopro footage to go with it but my last surf i filmed some paddle cam but forgot that i had it set on meduim fov so all i filmed was my arm pit lol. Get well soon mate
