Hey all, I've been reading the forums for months and getting some awesome advice, but this is my first post

I've been paddle boarding for about a year. I have a 10'6 Fanatic Fly Allrounder which I have been using mainly on flat water - Noosa region. A couple of months ago I started trying a bit of paddle surfing with it and I am totally hooked on that now and manage to catch some small waves etc. I had no previous surfing experience...

The 10'6 is just too big though and I am going to buy a new board. I'll be doing about 80% surfing (me time) and 20% flat water (family time) at a guess from now on. I am about 80 - 82kg, 185cm.

I can't afford to have a flat water board and a surfing orientated board as much as I would love to, so I am considering these two board?

2013 starboard element 9'8

2013 JP fusion 9'8

Any thoughts on these two boards? Other boards that might be suitable?

Cheers

I have th fusion 9'8 and its great. Stepped down from a 10'6 as I found it a bit too big to control in the surf. The fusion catches waves with ease and is great getting out through the waves.

I have the 9'8" Fusion. I stepped down from the Starboard 10'5" Drive.
The Drive was a good all rounder, the Fusion is a better wave board. I am 88KG and find it to have good stability.
If you are not a good surfer you may find that you will have more fun on the Fly.
Best if you can demo a 9'8" somewhere. I have also had a good go on an Element, found it too slow, however the latest model has had a revamp to the shape but I dont know if the revamp has changed the speed of the board or not.
Demo if you can!
Cheers,
Ken

I hired an element the last time I was in Maui and thought it was fantastic. I only rode it in tiny reef waves but it was so much fun and a great flat water paddler as well.
