Hi I'm just beginning SUP. I weigh 60k and looking for a board to suit cruising and small surf. I prefer slightly longer boards but still want moveability and glide. I have fairly good balance. I have been looking at Fanatic Allround 10"6 or the Starboard Drive 10'5 2011 sounds good.
Are they a similar board?
Do you think they are suitable?

I would be thankful of any advice.

hi mate
both boards would be suitable for what you want, haven't tried either, but i have only heard good things about the drive, will be fine for your weight, just demo them if you can and see what you like

Hi. I have a 2011 Drive but was in Maui recently and used a friend's Drive for a week in the surf. I weigh 61 kg. As and all around board it is pretty good. In the flat water take off the side fins. In the surf it is ok for a beginner. However, as soon as you want to start moving around on the wave it takes a lot more skill to get it to come back up the wave. After the week of using it I bought an Element. The paddling on flat water is very close to the Drive but it surfs much better. When you step back on the tail it transforms into a very different board and is fun and alive under your feet. There is more information by a couple of owners if you google Starboard Drive reviews or do it for the Element. I have not seen or tried the other board you mention.

Charlotte,
I think at your weight the Drive might have to much volume. It's about 160lt and a fairly big board to throw around. There are heaps of other Starbys with less Ltrs that will suit your weight better. Best advice as usual demo a Drive but also demo some much smaller models as well. Don't set your mind on a board until you try it.
Cheers
