Hey Guys, First post here on Seabreeze great site. I have about 10 rides in on a touring board and am totally addicted. I am paddling 1 to 1.5 hours steady on each outing and now want to go to a race style board. I am not interested in racing ,just fitness and going fast . I rode a friends 14x27 lahui kai and loved the speed of a race board. My question is there are some good deals on close out boards on Paddleboard Specialists such as the SIC FX 14 for$ 1995. I am trying to stay around$ 2000 u.s. for a good fast board. I paddle at 3 spots. A glass smooth lake. A lake that also had jet skis and boats, gets a little choppy. and a river with not too strong of a current. 2 miles upstream 2 miles back. I'm 5 11 180 pounds with good balance. Am I better off getting an 18 model? Can't seem to find any for under $2000 Thx Bill
That's a very good price for the SIC FX. But are you sure you are ready for a 25" wide race board after only 10 paddles? Maybe you should demo a few boards first before spending your cash?
ya I paddled a 26 inch and a 27 inch, both 14 foot and had no issues with the width. I liked the narrower boards a lot better. The speed was just so much better.
Well, get it then.
although a 25" wide board is often a fair bit tippier than a 26" wide one, and a completely different animal than a 27" wide one. Even just one inch can make a difference.
But you are confident. So what are you waiting for? You aren't going to find a brand new model carbon board from a premium brand like SIC for under 2k. You might find a used one though.
