as i ran mr's with a 7" futures fin the board tends to be a little tail heavy. so i drilled a series of holes in the part of the fin that goes into the box to lighten it up a bit and have foiled the inside of the mr's to lighten them up and hopefully they go better with this oversize thruster setup
cheers
ps try tomorrow

Gday Lacey,
So your riding a DC8-8 right? Did you get fin humb from your future 7" in bigger waves? I did when I had it set up as a thruster.Changed it back to a quad, fin humb has gone.So not sure if it was the wave size, finbox off centre slightly or what, but its stopped and just love the quad set-up.So has the weight reduction made the diff,or what?,

mine is a dc 10, i just leave it like that big or small.i haven't notice any humb, to be honest on a bigger waves i,m more concerned in making em. i reckon the holes in the centre fin box attachment part worked. waves are off at the moment, but hoping weight reduction and the foiling will work better
cheers
ps i know a lot of guys like quads, but i didn,t go it. prefer a more centred feeling

these boards are pretty light and its is a lot of fin.i've noticed on these lighter boards, if you do a snap of the top the nose of the board lifts up sharply and it's really is a big lunge forward to get it back down and stay on the wave. kinda feels like i am climbing, so it more of a board balance issue. it wouldn't happen except for the mr's, they are full glass
cheers
ps someone make some core centre fins and bigger side core fins please

I've got a set of the 'plasticy' opaque white MRs with a super small trailing fin in my 903 PSH-waves and wind have been shiit last two days (except for a VERY fun session at N Narra yesterday [on the 601]) so haven't had a chance to give it a go yet.

finally had some decent waves to try the fins on, only a short surf at the alley.the drive with the mr's is good, but my impressions with the inside foiling was the board was faster and a lot smoother. i've got a woody sup coming that has futures setup. i plan to use t1's and i'll probably get polsie to foil the inside of them for me this time
cheers

I tried the MRs with a small trailing fin and found it too stiff for my liking-now using carbon GPRs (Pat Rawson's fins) - way looser - but I want it looser still.....

i tried my boards as a twinnie- awful, i know you wouldn't like it. i can deal with a bit of stiffness in the board as long as it holds and is fast.i surf my shortboards with bigger fins, not a fan of really loose surfboards, i reckon it just ends up screwing up my surfing. imo, i would rather try to use good technique then just have a board that turns everywhere. it might surprise a few people, but richo told me that taj surfs with big fins and look what he does, also woody jack sets his sups up with pc 7's or sunny's with an 8"wide base centre fin.just a different view of setups for sups

I tried that same thing on the weekend ... and came to the same conclusion. I'm going back to my Occys all round - love it.

hi casso, had some pretty good waves at the alley. i'm going to try sunny's all up and brought an adapter. i know the front fins on your 8 8 were setup for my 'demo" board, but i can't remember what dale did with the centre plugs. i was wondering if you might be able to give me a measurement from the front of the front fins to the back of the centre fin please.
cheers

thank #### for that, i thought i must have been a weirdo.i looked at some for plastic mr's and compared them to the glass ones for weight. they are lighter. when i,m surfing the alley the 7" and mr's are great, gives me a lot of confidence to give the turns a real go instead of tip toeing.however i will give casso's setup ago, but with sunny,s. could work out good on smaller waves and keep the bigger fins for bigger waves maybe.

That's a lot of fin Shep-but that board's got a lot of tail so the set up may work better than on the narrower tails.

I tried the MR's with the original 8" centre fin - that was great for going in a straight line (and flat water paddling) - and then as a twin fin - wasnt to bad in small (tiny) surf once you were on the wave but was no good for catching waves as the swell caught the tail of the board it would pretty much just spin it around so it was side on.

Im not changing the current set up until I knock one of them out

I've been using the Pat Rawsons the past week in some pretty good swell here-had a few close to double o'head sets on the take off and the Rawsons all round have held in on bottom turns and cutbacks-no real need for more fin IMO. I couldn't imagine going the MRs AND a 7inch-just way too much fin to get it moving fast and loose-just a personal preference.

i like the pr's, big fin and found them very pivotal. are you using them all round? also another factor for me might be my dc 8 10 has a big than normal tail like the sb in the picture. casso's dc 88 has a narrower by his request.i 'm thinking i,m liking the 7" because on rail a smaller centre fin is not going to be in the water because of the sheer width of the tail- interesting

Loco and tortise are on the money. I've got a PSH 10'AA and have gone from an 8" dolphin down to the 7 incher and its definately better. Get smaller side fins if you can, but if the surf is small or fat take them out - gaurantee you wont miss them!

WHOOPS I was replying to Fin Help and ended up in foiled MRs - sorry

Try em' all around-you'll see John (goatman) and Casso are using Occys all around-I didn'r want to hassle my mate for ANOTHER set of fins so went with some old Pat Rawson carbons (which I've had for about 8 years and hated because they used to hum on a shortboard-but not on the SUB oddly) and they are fine.

No hassle trying em' - leave a key and screwdriver on the beach and swap em' out if you don't like em'-I've been doing that AND carrying the 601 shortbaord down and swapping boards-the surf has been really good here the past week.
