I'm only new to foiling and after a few sessions behind a boat have been using a wing to get my foiling time up.
My final goal is to get good enough to be able to paddle foil downwind, having done quite a bit on skis and sups over the years.
At this stage I'm fine foiling in normal and switch stance, but so far haven't been able to ride natural stance on a starboard tack. Tacking and gybing are also mysteries. I find as soon as the pressure comes off the wing and I have to balance on my own I start to get the wobbles and most likely fall.
Been very happy with my gear setup using the following:
Sunova 6'8 downwind foil board
Takuma lol 1900 + 1600 foil
F-one 5m swing wing.

So I'm after some tips on what I should be concentrating on over the next few sessions to keep progressing to my final goal. At the moment I'm thinking I need to get riding natural stance on a starboard tack dialled. Thoughts?

Cheers
Mike

You need to get alot more time up in the waves . Paddle in DW is super hard to start if you don't have good skills . So surf as much as you can and keep up the wing foiling once you get better at both maybe try a wingfoil DW but just leave the paddle DW for now. Your set up is good so nothing to change there.

Haha you live in WA where DW on a foil is easier than most other spots. Great place to learn how to foil DW

Time in the bumps will help, use the wing as much as you can but don't start relying on it and keep thinking what end goal is. Keep riding switch if you can as it all only help in the long run.

Practice paddling your Foil up in the bumps as this does get easier the more you practice. Boards can make a huge difference and this something that can get over looked. Having a board that is sticky is a real pain and with pumping a board up you want it to be easy as possible.

Make sure your foil paddle is nice and short, i run mine about 2 or 3 inches shorter than my head. This can really with pumping up and using a long paddle SUCKS.

Thanks for the feedback guys.
Sounds like I'll pretty much keep on doing what I've been doing i.e. Play in the bumps / waves as much as possible and try to rely on the wing less.

Wouldn't have tried this though.

Will be trying this for sure.

Got to say this foiling thing is a total blast!
