So I windfoil, when there is wind, but not enough lately and getting frustrated as forecasts for wind 2 days out keep getting down graded to no wind![]()
Any chance of getting up on a windsurfing slalom board (Goya Bolt 135 L, 7.6 kg) and an AFS Wind95 foil with a F1080 cm2 wing using a SUP paddle? I can get some help from 1-2' swell. Now I can pump that foil in-flight when the wind drops, have done it for 1/4 mile or longer, but there was still some wind, just not enough to windfoil with. If the winds stops completely the sail drags through the air and drops me off the foil. But with no sail/mast/boom that would not be a problem foiling, and would reduce the weight too, I weight ~80 kg.
If it is possible, any recommendations for a specific SUP paddle? Guessing light weight carbon is good, but what about blade size, are there different blade sizes?
So I saw a post here about the new Lift foils for prone foiling, they now have wings in the range of my F1080 cm2 wing, the new high aspect series 170 in2/1095 cm2, is actually higher aspect than my F1080 wing. Like I said, when windfoiling I can already pump the foil for a 1/4 mile or longer when the wind drops, so maybe a small swell along with a paddle will be enough to get me up. Going to order a paddle and see.
Oh gramps, can not see your post, but you know that! will get back after I give it a go!
A big enough swell or boat wake will get me going along with the paddle, I think based on videos of prone foiling. And of course my experience of pumping the foil in-flight in sub-foiling winds will help.
You all will have to be understanding with gramps, sometimes he gets confused and does not make sense!
So I got my Amazon.com $158 100% carbon 2-piece paddle, tried it out today, something felt weird right away, then I noticed the shaft bending like a noodle when I really dug in, back it goes. And the handle could twist too, while the 2-piece design added to the flex. Thinking a 1-piece cut to length paddle is the way to go now.
