The title says it all. For paddling into surf, not for downwind:
1. What volume board are you using?
2. What's your weight?
3. Bonus, traditional wide SUP shape or narrow DW shape?
My daily is a 6'10 x 20 95L but I know there's more performance to be had.
The other day I demo'd an Appletree 6'4 x 20.5 87L mid-length and it was fantastic (albeit a bit heavy)
More stable than my current board, turned and pumped better but did take a bit more finesse to paddle onto waves without pivoting the nose.
I think those dims maybe a few less litres in a lighter construction will be where I land (the Armstrong ML 85L looks to be a great fit)
I'm 70kg

100kgs+
Kalama 131L
Axis 75cm mast
960 SF front
350 P tail
Adv short fuse
Great big guy supfoil surf set up
KT Dragonfly V1 7' 19" 100L
85kg without gear.
Have a super fun time in even the slightest lake bump:
I'm 198 cm (6'5") at 93 kg (dry) riding a 7'7" x 19 x 112L. Static stability is quite challenging in any side chop (I'm used to DW shapes and paddling) but improves dramatically with some forward speed. For my height and offset stance I wouldn't want to go narrower and may prefer 20" width for a little extra room and leverage over the foil. I'd be curious to know what other tall/heavier riders prefer for wave SUP foil.
I'm 80 kg's, been SuPing since the beginning but at 65, skills aren't what they used to be. I've given it a go on my 85 liter Armstrong ML board, but for Sup'n my final thoughts were "I'm making this way too hard". The 85 has been great for winging in light air and parasailing. But. would also like an easier crossover for Sup. Anyone compared the Armstrong 100 ML, KT 104 K2 or new Naish Chimera108?

Want to sell your ML85? ;P
Is the Chimera the hollow construction board?
KT are "generally" more fragile than the Armstrong construction but as a result usually lighter.
I wouldn't personally go a Naish but I'm sure hoping the hollow tech starts to filter through quickly as the idea of a 4kg or so SUP in the surf would be a big jump in performance and probably what I'm trying to hold out until before the next purchase.
Super k carbon 6,3 95 L.
Or crossing 8,4 105 L
I weigh 82kg.
I'm more into lightweight boards these days.
1.88m x 98kg ex gear.Sunova8.4x20x125l DW style. This board works for DW and supfoil in my conditions.Where I live (Netherlands) we have always short period steep, not clean windwaves. When I,m in Crozon- France I could easily paddle a shorter/ smaller board, but good luck standing on it here at home.
In the past when I was still doing a lot more sup I had a "holiday" board of 8.2x29x110l and a wider tailed home conditions board 8.5x30x125l.
luckily with foilboards i can tune it with just a different frontwing![]()
