Hi . Sorry if its been done. I did a search nothing obvious resulted . So I was in a fastner shop buying bolts for a new wing .(not supplied) and noticed some lanolin products that in the description on the labelling read like it would be ok as a cheaper option to tef gel. Any experience there ? Cheers Jeff.
Get some Tefgel, and rub a small amount on your hands. Now try wiping it off. Then try washing it off, soap, detergent, whatever you like. The stuff sticks like babysh** to a blanket, its not until you get turps onto it that it will come off.
Lanolin is pretty good, after all it evolved over millions of years to act as a protective barrier, but it still doesn't beat Tefgel.
Lanolin works just fine and is much less expensive. It does smell like sheep though
I've used lanolin before on yacht fittings and it is good, although it does degrade over time. However the lanolin grease I got with my Slingshot foil was too thin, more like the consistency of Vaseline.
If you can get the thicker consistency lanolin then that is better, but I still think Tefgel is worth every penny. And it doesn't small like a wet sheep.
I used board wax because it's what i had at the time.
It seems to work pretty well and it doesn't smell bad. I never compared it to the others so take it for what it's worth.
Tefgel is pretty good stuff. Very sticky but seems to work very well. Buy a bigger tube of it and it works out cheaper.

Yes Lanolin works to a certain extent but Tefgel is just so much better. The Lanolin will break down much quicker and even absorb salt crystals. This is the one I use.

Tef Gel lasts an unbelievable amount of time. A tiny tube should last a foiler a lifetime.
Curious to know how often you guys reapply and when you determine it needs more?
