Hey, looking for some advice on a prone foil setup. I'm a 75kg experienced surfer; i can also kite-foil decently - but not switch tacks yet.
My typical shortboard is ~26L and the waves to prone foil would be mushy knee to chest high

I'm leaning towards purchasing an Armstong foil setup, and wondering if i should just jump into an HA925 or get the HS1250 to start off with. I would also get the Armstrong FG 4'5 board. Any advice or recommendations are appreciated, cheers.

Maybe. It depends on how committed you are. Coming from prone surfing to prone foiling is challenging enough. The 1250 may be easier to learn on but if you're willing to be humbled and have enough patience the 925 will be a great choice. Either way you will probably want more than one to suit your specific conditions.

My prone foiling journey is just beginning and I expected it to be super-challenging but so far I've been pleasantly surprised. I've only had a few short flights so far, not pumping yet, but it's been really fun.
My background is windsurfing and surfing, and wingfoiling for 2 years. I'm 90kg, using my 90 litre wing board (Big and stable), Axis setup (60cm mast, short fuselage, ART1099, 375p stabiliser - very smooth and stable).
I just belly-rode a few, got a few flights, then got a few flights on hands and knees, then tried standing up. That wasn't a problem either, it was just a matter of getting up quickly enough to have speed left to go on-foil. I'm 62 and haven't surfed much for 20 years so I spent a bit of time on a longboard to get used to popping-up again, although there's a bit less pop at the moment which I hope to rectify now that summer is on the way and I'm getting more water time.

Might be work getting some tows, both flat water then into waves if possible.

Right on. thanks all for the input. good tips on needing another foil to accompany the first one, belly riding a few to get the hang of it, and tow-ins. still undecided on the HA... might just try and grab whichever i see a deal on first, then take it from there.

Buy the cheaper one. You're going to want to buy another one soon enough.
HA is nice because it has less initial lift. Has more glide. May not turn as well. The 1250 will feel more like a shortboard. They'll both work.
All initial problems learning to prone foil surf are solved by more front foot.

High aspect is fine to start, I've taught a few people starting on an ~1100-1300 mid/high aspect wing. I find stiffness and good stall performance are most important. Something similar to axis 930/980 or Gofoil RS1150/1300 would be great and last a while into your progression. An easy paddling/takeoff board will make a big difference too; can't learn to foil if you don't catch any waves

HA foils are good to learn as the lift is more gradual but i don't recommand armstrong ha (at least to start) as they are really technical.

I would go with a shorter stiff mast (60cm) it is way easier to learn on, then you will go to a 70/80cm mast.

Board size is my biggest pain point at the moment, I can wing just fine with Armstrong HA wings but I am finding that I can't catch waves. Part of it is the location as i have a 85cm mast, I can't get deep enough into the pocket/white wash. but even when its bigger and breaking deeper, the 35L prone board and (my fitness) struggleTrying to find the best beginner board/ volume. Currently riding an old Naish 5'2 but unsuccessfully
75kg/165lbs1325/925/725 HA & V1 CF1200 foils, 85cm mast, 60/70 fuseWhat is the best prone foil volume/ length to catch small 1-2ft point break waves?I have caught a few with my wing foil board that I learnt to wing on a few years ago but that is 95L and doesn't feel great to ride
