I am interested in the Smik 6 11 Slab as a nice 7 kg light weight option.
However, none locally so any reviews or experience anyone can share?
Hey Warick
I have the 6'6 x 106L Smik...the little brother . I dropped down from my retro fitted minion board 7'8 which I started my foil journey on approx 6mnths but wanted a dedicated foil board.
Initially just getting my head around the short board was a challenge...paddling was obviously alot slower. I'm 96kg and had no problem with the stability and the advice from fellow breezers was to go as short as possible.
The first few sessions were pretty frustrating.. catching waves and then trying to get foil engaged was alot harder at first.
Then a good mate and foiler of mine said to move my back foot forward on take off and pump or bounce to get up.on foil. I think I was to fixated at having my back foot over the foil at first.
This foot position improvement made all the difference. Now I seldom miss waves..or breach . The Smik feels very responsive and in flight is awesome. Turnning feels natural and alot easier on shorter board with less swing weight.Construction is quality and shape with the more squared noise is what I wanted ..similar to what I've seen alot of guys on in Hawaii. I did try s front foot strap but now don't use anything and feels alot more intuitive.
I spoke to Guy at Surf fx and Piros too . Even emailed Scotty who got back to me and was really helpful. They provided good feedback and advice.
In general im very happy with my Smik , its really improved my foiling and progressed my journey. Note- perseverance is the key. There were times when I wanted to give ho, smash things and explain to the boss why i wasted more money..but the day it clicked was all worth it.
Chur hope that helps
Thank you for your advice.
Smik seem to have extensive experience in SUPS and top quality construction with an excellent track record.
However, I am hoping for more feed back from guys that have the Foil Slab.
I have checked directly with Smik and there are none in my location with in over 100k.

The key point is Scotty has extensive experience with windsurfing which construction wise is way more demanding than sup. His boards are light and strong. They are custom so you dictate the shape. Perfect combo for me.
