finally finished my version of the "barracuda" or a long, slim version of the displacement-pintail I made a few years back.
Been on the bench for a while for various reasons but its so good to be back in the shapingbay and the water.
So, here it comes:
7'10" x 19" x 5 1/2. 4,8 kg
construction: low density EPS and high density PET double stringers at standing area. 6oz glass top and bottom. Biax carbon at standing + 0/90 heavy carbon over the stringers top and bottom. Long aloy boxes. Hopes are that it will be mighty stiff because of the two "I-beams"
shape: still true displacement with maybe a 15 cm flat area at boxes. Have added volume to the tail in hopes that it will sink less when bobbing up to fly-mode. We will see. Always easier to remove than add:) Front-Rocker is gradual from middle. Outline is sewn together pieces of templates I had laying around.
will test it in small wave conditions this weekend. Im 85 kg with my hooded wetsuit. Cant wait:D

You did start this ball rolling IMHO, i remember that post with your design perfectly.Beautiful concept and build.
Credit where it's due!.

Thanks dude. A shame I didnt trust my feelings and moved forward with the concept. Hard when my dw buddies were the top foilers of Denmark like Casper Steinfath and they were happy on their sponsered naish/appletree/infinity boards.. i was clearly the odd one!
;

by the looks of things you beat Kalama to it - maybe we should call the pintail concept "Danish Eel Design"?
Let us know how you like the longer. I found my 7'6 x 18 too long for average dw, it works but not as good as a shoter board, I will keep it only for big dw with ground swell.
I like better my 6'4 x 20 as it takes off super easily.

+1 Credit where it's due!
You keep great company. Good to hear you overcame adversity and back on the water pumping.
Maybe we'll see another breakthrough design now that you're back tinkering![]()
BTW, what's the tail rocker on this board?
Thanks everyone. I'm very sure that we were a handfull getting the same idea on pintail/displacement for dw across the globe at the same time. but not everyone share their ideas (early on, and on seabreeze;) or take action on them.
tailrocker is 1" starting a foot in. have had a lumpy, short, SUP session on it and one prone. Such a different animal compared to anything I have tried before. Also from what I expected. Need a flatwater/clean Sup session on it to really analyze and conclude.
But right now I can say that trailing mast edge with my 1099/ultrashort fuse needs to be 60cm from tail. Volume is around 105~ltr. Front rocker could be more progressive at nose area.
The board has now been tested in a few different dw-scenarios. Unfortunantly not by me though. Seems like foil is set a little more towards the tail compared to other gun-type boards. But else the feedback has luckily been as expected. Stiff and direct feedback even though board is light. Very forgiving rails, even in touchdows done mid bottomturn. Early release. The guy in this video wished the board had fewer ltrs. He is around 75kg
