Want to get into sup foil and maybe have a go at DW. Can already prone foil and wing to intermediate level. Only sup background is flat water isup. 85kg. My wing board is too small to sup. Thoughts on the 'one' egg 6'1 x 25 x 108L for me? Thanks in advance
The Egg has to be one of the best all-round sup foil boards on the market!A great all round board with good volume for your weight (I'm 80kg but was around 86-87kg when I got it).. It should be stable enough for you to learn to sup/improve your paddling and has enough float to let you put some decent power down in your paddle strokes.
It surfs well, has reasonable glide when paddling, and is long enough to hold its line (so you don't go round in circles). It's also great for light wind dinging when you want a bit of extra float and glide to get going.
For downwind, it will do the job to get you started on your downwind journey too - but if your primary focus is downwind, then I'd suggest going with something longer (and possibly narrower). I foil with a bunch of guys who all started downwinding on Egg's before the industry changed direction and downwind foil boards grew longer.
They come in at a good weight (maybe around 6kg?) and are super durable in their construction - mine has taken a beating and done some air travel too and after more than a year only has a few small chips in the paint right at the nose and tail where the rail tape stopped. Still feels really solid and strong with no soft spots anywhere.
I've switched to a longer & narrower board now (which I'm using for everything) as my main focus at the moment is downwind. but I'm also holding onto the Egg as I think when I go longer & narrower again for my next downwind board, then I will want the versatility of the egg when the surf is good and probably for light wind winging too. Even though I'm not using mine regularly at the moment, I don't think I'd be able to find a better all round option to have in the garage as a backup (or for when the surf it good).
