Hi all struggling to deside the way to go for my new Sup foil board ,I just sold my quattro wing drifter 5.6 and I am thinking which way to go ,shorter or longer and narrower .My options are wing drifter 5.4 ,27 which is 90 lt from 105 that the 5.6 was ,Lift 5.2 which claims 95 lt but I am not sure that it is true and takuma Kt 5.8 ,25 95 lt .Takuma will catch waves easier but I don't like the extra length....
I am 5.5,150 lbs 54 years young appreciate your thoughts!!!!!
My thought is that it is not the length that counts in the air, but the swing weight, or more precisely the rotational inertia
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moment_of_inertia
the dampening effect of a mass is proportional to the square of its distance to the center of rotation (rocking movement: the front wing of the foil).
Thus a board can still have some length for general comfort if its nose is light.
E.g.: a 5'6" board with a streamlined nose may be better in the air than a 5'0" with a big square (heavy) nose
And a 105 liters board may be much better than a 95l board if it is lighter
And if the weight is concentrated on the foil box for durability, it will better than spread on all the board...
In a nutshell: for small differences in sizing, the construction is very important.
Thanks colas very accurate explanation I totally agree ...but hard to find a production board that combines all these..so far.. the best volume distribution that I have seen are on Kalama boards but this is from pictures and videos not that I have tried one very hard to find at my region..

I'd go with the Takuma. I have the TK65 5.2 @165lbs and 45y after 4 months of winging. It comes in at 4.7lbs (10.4lbs). the nose is very light and the box is very far forward which allows for a stance extremely close to the nose while having great glide ... kind of what the armstrong FG boards are all about. For winging the 85lt would work for you as well. I don't SUP foil so I don't know what the minimum is for you in terms of litres.
Thanks randomfoiler I had the tk 55 for winging ,didn't like at all switched to lift 4.8 55 which is a bit lower volume actually from the takuma and it is my go to board at any condition love it but Sup is another story ...
