Hi there. I windfoil for a couple of months now and wing foil the pasr three weeks. I own an red rocket pocket board 122lt and a naish Ws1 2018 foil. I use the same for both wing foiling and windfoil ING. My board Is supposed to work for all disciplines of foiling. I d love to try sup foiling as well but not on this front wing. Anyway my concern regards mainly wing foiling. So far so good with this front wing but I need a lot of wind to wing foil on my 4m wing surfer. Do you think if I change the front wing to naish surf foil large 2018 I will be able to lift and foil earlier at low speeds? Is it worth the money or should I look to a larger wing for example xl later on cause at the moment I can afford only the naish l surf bfoil 2018? Will I notice differences compared to the Ws1 I currently use?
I've had and used all those foils mentioned and getting that WS1 foil up and going with a 4m wing is do'able but very hard work (unless you're Robby Naish).
The Large size foil is better but not much better.. The XL is definitely better again and I'd say it's a minimum in size and I wouldn't suggest going any smaller.
I'd recommend something even bigger than the XL if you want early lift and glide at slower speeds.
How heavy are you?
Hi and thanks a lot for the advice. The last 2 weekends i had no problem wingfoiling on this but the wind had to pick up a lot like 20+ knots. My aim is to foil in lghter winds too at leats up to a point where a 4m wing can be used. For very ;ight winds i do windfoiling. I weigh 68.5 kilos
I tried using my WS2 wing recently and although the wind was strong enough to get up foiling it needed to be constantly powered up with the wing to keep it foiling (but I'm much heavier then you) and when I sheeted out with the wing it would suddenly drop off the foil.. It also felt very twitchy when foiling but I'm guessing that's mostly my foiling skills because I know Robby loves using that wing wing-foiling.. Going back to my bigger foil wings felt so much easier allowing me to get foiling so much earlier and keep foiling when sheeting out and slowing right down without dropping off the foil.. At your weight the XL foil size should be fine.
