Being the ocean sports lover that I am, I can't believe I have never made it to a Merimbula.
It always coincides with one of the best weekends (or couple of weeks) for events in WA.
Over the years there has been The Doctor surf ski and sup race, Lighthouse to Leighton kite race, King of the Cut, what was an epic SUP downwind and in the end a SUP Sup foil and wing race.
This year again there is a massive 10 days in WA for down winding, Downwind week, which is mainly for surf skis but for the first time foils are allowed in every race.
3 x SSS Sunset Surf Ski races Port Beach to City Beach.
West Coast Downwinder Port Beach to Sorrento
Then on the same weekend as Merimbula the iconic Doctor Race from Rottnest to Sorrento
Merimbula sounds like an awesome weekend but once again I'll be giving it a miss, it's probably the only week that I wouldn't leave WA for it.
I hope we get good conditions on both sides of the country that weekend.
It may be Australia's biggest foil demo but unfortunately a heap of Australia's best foilers won't make it as they will be in WA.
It is nice to have choices though.
