Does anyone know what the difference is between the G10 KD Maui tails and the ones that he did for Signature Foils? I get that they look a different, but do they serve a different purpose performance wise or is it just that the G10s come in more size?

I've asked him about his front wings before. Neil pryde vs custom. He said the custom ones were completely different. I'd imagine the same is true for the tail wings. But can't speak for him. Message him on Instagram. He's good about writing back.

oh actually just checked I have asked him about the tails too haha. He says they are completely different from what he's making currently.

I think his custom G10 tails are just his latest design, it would have been a while ago when he designed the SPG one's but I'm sure they go great.

I just bought a KD 13" & can't wait to feel the difference on my Kujira 980, will get 1st ride later this week.

I don't know about the Signature or NP versions, but I can confirm his G10 custom tails are very noticeably better than anything else I've tried. Smoother lift profile, holds a turn better, and plenty fast.

KD here! Yeas the g10 tails are a newer design and are super versatile but the SPG ones are really good for some applications. The tails for spg are more efficient at low speed because of the different airfoil and higher aspect ratio, it comes at the cost of high speed stability though and generally runs more angle. I've been starting to recommend my g10 tails for surfing/winging and spg for downwind and pumping!

I have the 13.5" G10, I think it is not as fast as a flat stab (at least the sensation, I need to check with a gps) but it holds really good big carving turn, I really like it.

Just tried my KD 13" for the 1st time today, felt really smooth/fast & no humm.
Expensive to ship to Oz but worth it imho.

I've had my 14" KD Tail for a few months now.
Better than stock 212 IMO. Smooth turns and fast. Thinner profile.

Curious about the rest of the setup, what front wing and shim are you using?

US$295 with shipping. Will see if it was worthwhile in a couple of weeks.

I'm running my KD 14 tail with a -2 shim on the Armstrong with HS1250/85/60.
I've tried all the shims. Settled on the negative 2 for now, as I like the front foot pressure. Just clocked PB top speed of 35.4km/h winging on flat water set up this way.

I have 13" for Armstrong and 12.5" & 13.5" for Cloud9. The G10 construction can take a beating. They're built to last. The profile is extremely thin and the improved speed is noticeable. The horned tips have bite when pushing through a critical turn. The stab is sharp and you might want to sand and dull down the edges.

Very noticeable difference in performance between the 13" KD & Kujira 220 tails.

KD doesn't have tubercles , so it couldn't possibly be better

I tried a 14" KD SPG Mach1 back to back with the Kujira 220 and the difference is significant. KD is much more slippery and gives you much improved speed and projection out of pumps - but, it comes at the price of stability loses and less hold in turns.

On a sup-foil the extra pumpability was very welcome but using the KD on a wing the benefits did not outweigh the negatives for me. If your focus is purely pumping, then the KD is next level.

I found the reverse ( on my prone ) , on the KD tails re the rear grip . I've tried them both on my 980 Kujira ( 13.5" ) & Army 1250 rig (13") . It's a much sleeker tail which doesn't plane up with speed so when you turn hard and the tail stays lower giving way more grip . Tail wings are often the culprit causing front wing breach or ventilation. When we tow on the Kujira 980 we also reverse the tail wedge to give more grip as we are often cracking 40 kph and it sticks like sh!t to blanket . If you did that to a stock wing it would ventilate and blow. We are only riding a 4-0 or 4-6 prone boards so the swing weight on a larger Sup might be a different story .

So when you say you reverse the tail wedge to give more grip , is the tail then producing more angle and more drag or less angle and less drag ? I have found a board with tail rocker is good for keeping the foil down when towing or making steeper takeoffs even though in theory it shouldn't make any difference but it does.

The SPG Mach1 is a totally different wing design to his G10 but thanks for your comments, the Kujira 220 is still a great stab....I'm going to chop mine

My 220 got chopped in half by a young frother wing-jumping it....busy trying to repair it.
