I found one these boards and seriously considering it. Has anyone had any issues with them. I tried searching and could not find anything. I thought i remembered there was some talk about needing to shim your foil on these board because of the tail rocker. Trying to find out if that was correct or not. I know the quality of the JP's is great. Just wondering about mating up my foil with it.
If there's tail rocker where the foil boxes are then you will need to shim the back of the mast plate or you will ride nose high when foiling and have trouble paddling and catching waves
That's true if you place your foil mast all the way back to get proper location of the front foil.
Go hi aspect if that's a problem.
As Tomooh said, plenty of tail rocker in the NP 7-2 so you need a decent wedge to level out the foil. Build wise the boards are super tough and really good quality. Foil wise the 7-2 is classed as big so no real point in going too higher Aspect , The old NP Large foil suits this board really well , some good second hand ones still around or any of the older Axis gear , the original 1020 would be a good start. This board would also be a great learner for the wingding.
Found the thread that I read a while back
www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/Stand-Up-Paddle/Foiling/Wedge-is-needed-for-JP-6ft-8--board
Do my Honda tires fit on my Toyota?
If they both have a set of mast tracks, then yes they do
Not necessarily.
Just because they can bolt in, does NOT mean the placement of the front wing is correct for the overall ride in respect to comfort and function.
The COE can be too forward or too back, depending on geometry od the foil. And every foil gas a different COE, even same company and same model, but different size.
I have and use the JP 7.0 for sup foiling, wing foiling and some light use.. windsurf foiling. I have used the Starboard and NP foils with this board and they work great with no shims needed.
What I have found out and why I have said my JP 6ft 8" needs a wedge is because my own Coreban Hyper 7ft that I converted by putting a track box in is it is very easy to paddle & initially step up to fly my Neilpryde foil as well as surfing on foil.
The Coreban had excessive tail rocker which meant I needed about a 13 mm wedge at its thick tail end to achieve ultimate ride ability which included getting up on foil.
I now believe that the Coreban high tail rocker with wedge makes it easier to step down on its tail to point the nose of the board up which makes it get on foil so easy.
The JP board has a recess under its tail but the area & no curve of that recess makes it harder to push down under water to make it fly. It felt like it was sticking & not responsive to get up on the fly immediately. It's no major problem and you wouldn't know it if you haven't ridden another board that is easier to get up on foil.
I have noticed that once up & flying or riding there is no real difference in riding. And because the JP board is awesomely light. It will be easier to turn & pump.
And like Piros says, its a strong board.
So in summary. I could have been wrong in saying that a wedge is needed. Especially if you mount your foil more forward.
Thanks, I got a good deal on the board so I did get it. Just have not had a chance to take it out in the surf yet to see what adjusts, if any, it may need.
I'll be very interested in how you go with it.
I also use a 6mm wedge on my JP board for wingding. I think it helps me to not fall backwards as easy. But, this may be just me & my muscle memory.
I think with a bit more practise the wedge may not be needed either.
