Hi all,
I've been surf SUPPING lately and really enjoying it. I'm about to purchase a smaller SUP board (currently 132L), but would like to start foiling later in the year when more wind than good waves (I'm at Ocean Grove, Vic, Australia). About to get a 106litre SUP (I'm 95kg and tried 112L last weekend and went well), but then realised there are hybrid SUPs that have a mount for a foil.
Are these any good?
Worth chasing one with my 'plans' in mind, or are they are compromise for both uses (surf SUP and wind foil) and just get the SUP that I want and get another board later purely for foiling?
I surf a shortboard mostly, so maybe I could start on a smaller board to wing foil with. Dunno. Help...!
In my view yes. Using a Naish 27 Crossover for SUP Surfing, wind foiling and SUP Foiling. Surfs really well and the winner our our first Sup surf comp was on a Starboard crossover board so they can surf. Still learning foiling but wind foiling has been successful so far. I did do a thread of this "S27 Crossover" to give a beginner perspective
Elton, I have been SUP foiling and Wing Dinging on my Naish S26 and I LOVE it. Its so great that I use the same board and foils for both. Mainly running the GL210 and 17Flip for Wing DING and 14 flip for surf foiling.
Its fat and tall enough that it kind of corks in the water when you stomp on it. Super stable as a standup and ding. No knee starts on the ding. Just stand up and grab the wing. Super light swing weight in flight and pumps back out on Foil Surfing.
Specs of mine:110L 5'10" / 177.8cm 29" / 73.7cm 4 3/10" / 10.9cm
Its great for both but took some trial and error to learn how to SUP Foil it. The tip to tail on the initial drop takes some getting used to.
Sometimes I wish it were a couple of inches longer for more glide, but the next size up is too much volume. I can "kind of" Duck dive the 110 under waves. Next size up: 125L 6'4" / 192cm 31" / 78.7cm 4 2/5" / 11.2cm
I am 72 KG in weight.
Good luck

SUP or SUP foil?
If wanting to combine the two and you can manage paddling it I'd say Hypernut 2-in-1
I've got the 7'2 HyperNut 3 in 1. I've surfed it and Sup foiled it but haven't tried it for winging. I'd say it best as a Sup surf board - absolutely excels in that mode. It's been great for learning to Sup foil but I'm guessing I'll want something shorter for Sup foiling eventually. For what I wanted it's perfect, it's also a great platform for teaching family/friends to wing so definitely a keeper.

Mine's 7' and I'm not sure I'd go much shorter than that as you loose to much glide. As a Wind foil it's perfect and easy to use. Foiling in 1/2 hr of use
